The problem is that Dach has had more major injuries than he’s had good seasons in the NHL. He’s got a wrist that was more or less destroyed, and now a knee that’s been completely rebuilt. The wrist injury is why you never really see him shoot the puck and why Chicago moved him in the first place. The knee injury is devastating and takes time to heal - will it heal enough to allow him to be a NHL Player? I don’t know, but it doesn’t look great right now.
You can’t compare him to Markov and Price in that regard, their injuries never came during their major formative years. Their injuries were after they had established themselves as legitimate superstars. Dach we only see glimpses of the size and the talent and expect him to put everything together, but with a rebuilt wrist and knee, I’m not sure we should have any expectations at this point.
We aren’t at Christmas yet. Perhaps things will change for the better as he continues to get more ice time and work through the recovery process. I don’t think Habs management will cut bait on him this year, but he will need to severely change his trajectory if he wants to keep wearing a Montreal Canadians sweater.
