Utah Hockey Club down to final 3 names: Hockey Club, Mammoth, and Outlaws (upd: Wasatch already nixed)

Honestly all 3 are good options. I think Utah Wasatch is similar to the Seattle Rainiers, which is a cool name as well.
Still want Thunderbirds
Yeti was dumb name but still ticked the courts blocked it and also let Stanley Cup be used by a product (utterly bizarre - I'm going to start putting out a line of Lombardi Cooler Bags and make a fortune).

I honestly think it should be train related.
  • Utah Railrunners
  • Utah Express
  • Utah Ironhorses
Enter any other train related name. Transcontinental Railroad is as important to Utah as any other western states and maybe more because of the connection in Promontory Summit that connected the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads. I feel like also having a badass steam locomotive on your jersey would be awesome. And it does convey some power and speed into the team. A lot more than something like Mammoth or Outlaws does and honestly Outlaws fits more in Texas, Kansas, or Missouri (maybe Colorado?)

If they still want to go cryptids, but Wasatch is out, why not The Skinwalkers. I could see the uniforms now.

Or howbout The Flats?

I think things like Skinwalker (and Wendigo for northern teams) are basically a bit taboo to use as team names because they are important to the traditions of tribes in those areas. I still think they'd be cool names but sadly probably not viable for a team name. With that said, there are plenty of stories about Skinwalker Ranch with aliens that you could end up with something like the Utah Visitors.

And not only would Utah Visitors allow for an alien themed logo, but you'd also get a bit of a double entendre about Mormons visiting every house they see.

The Rough Riders were founded in 1876, The (Sask) Roughriders in 1910, so there's a chance copyright/trademark laws weren't what they are now when the Saskatchewan team was founded.
They could have sued Teddy Roosevelt.

TR shooting “Bully!” at the top of San Juan Hill and gets met by a process server.

Hmm, do you feel non-Mormons somehow 'mix' with the notion of 'Outlaws'?

I'm sure Mormons are smart enough to realize that the hockey players playing for their local team are not in fact 'Outlaws' and will not be promoting lawless behavior.

The name is absolutely fine as long as you don't read too much into it (which you are doing)
do Mormons mix with the notion of Jazz? Seem to be doing well with it after all these years.

It’s funny that of the three teams there, their hockey team will be the only named after anything to do with local culture.

Even their ABA team then Utah Stars was a vestigial nickname from LA.

If we don’t mind there being the Sacramento Kings and the Los Angeles Kings, there’s zero reason we shouldn’t have the Utah Raptors. It’s the only one that has made sense since the start and doesn’t feel forced.

How does Outlaws or Mammoth feel "forced"

I feel like the league should step in and punish the Utah ownership for all this name drama by forcing them to temporarily adopt the name 'Utah Drama Queens' for the '25-'26 NHL season.
You think they will want to take those titles away from the bigger market areas like the Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers & Philadelphia Flyers who creating all that fuzz on their own?
