A magnificent concerto! I love all of the Saint-Saens concerti and this recording is, in my opinion, one of the best. Collard/Previn and Roge/Dutoit are also excellent. Three years ago Collard played this with the Baltimore Symphony and it was stupendous! Interesting that the beautiful cadenza-like sections of the first movement- which are so unexpected- put the original audience off (in Leipzig). This concerto needs to be played in the concert halls more often!
