Refusing to pay for a shitty movie is more of your moral rationalization.

How are only okay with piracy in certain situations?
Because piracy is not an all or nothing

it works in certain situations and is wrong in others, mainly based on accessibility

Like it's okay to pirate Fugueuse because there's literally no legal way to watch in America

But if something like Breaking Bad is out in America just pay the money

All of that is separate from you claiming it's okay to pirate a movie that sucks.

I said I could see where you were coming from saying you wouldn't pay money for MoS since it was shitty but personally for me I'd just find a free legal copy or record it when it was on TV

Piracy

- find a torrent

- find someone who's seeding

- wait x hours for movie to finish downloading

- allocate who knows how much disk space on your drive to watch

- delete after watching because it's shit

Or

Streaming service / DVR

- pay 4 dollars

- watch immediately

Wonder which takes less steps?

I see no functional difference between me downloading it and you recording it, we're both making a copy for personal viewing at a later date.

Sure, you pay for Youtube TV, but it's not like that's putting money in Zack Snyder's pocket.

You don't see the problem behind illegally downloading a video and legally recording a video

That's not what I said.

There's no functional difference because we're both making a copy of something.

Sure, you pay for Youtube TV, so you're "legally allowed" to record stuff, but you're still making a copy of something that isn't yours.

It's okay to record a copy of a TV broadcast, but it's not okay for me to acquire a copy of that same TV broadcast?

What if it were something broadcasted OTA, that I have legal access to? Considering I had the opportunity to record it, would it be legal for me to acquire a copy of it?

Are you beginning to see that it's all semantics bullshit that doesn't really matter?

If you want to justify illegality fine but one is a legal means of procuring a movie and one is clearly illegal

I mean this is not up for debate

The FBI arrested no grandmas for sharing CD's

they arrested for file sharing services

To be fair that video agrees with your point that stealing / "downloading" videos and or music only robs the artists out of a minor convenience

On the other hand that was before Spotify

Spotify has basically made illegal music downloading irrelevant

It's like you completely ignored all of the hypothetical questions I asked, where I questioned what dictates legality
It's not hard

- downloading a torrent illegal

- downloading off a stream illegal

- paying to watch a stream off a streaming service legal

- recording the movie on DVR legal

At no point was downloading anything off torrents legal

You download off torrents and hide your IP address BECAUSE it's illegal

You can't discuss it openly on HF most of the time BECAUSE it's illegal

Let's say I fell asleep while watching Man of Steel on FXX.

Had I hit the record button, I could go back and watch the movie and skip all the commercials.

However, I didn't hit the record button, so now I have no legal claim to ever watch Man of Steel unless I either pay for it or wait until it's on FXX again.

I'm sorry but that's f***ing dumb.

There are legal torrents.

All the linux distros have torrents, for example.
