I'm not going to defend him but he's not "scared". I once had a co-worker just like him. They just don't believe that vaccines work and literally believe they cause harm. Yes, its stupid, but its a belief they have. Since you are so into" hearing both sides" maybe you should take the time to do that on this issue the same way you do on others.
