WASHINGTON (AP) — Already down two defensemen to injury, the Pittsburgh Penguins were in desperation mode when Jeff Petry skated off in pain and left them with just three healthy players at the position.

Veteran forward Jeff Carter to the rescue. Carter skated a shift on defense in his 1,313th NHL game Wednesday night to fill the void before Petry returned and the Penguins pieced enough together to beat the Washington Capitals 4-1 and snap their seven-game losing streak.

“Couldn’t have more confidence in Carts,” said goaltender Casey DeSmith, who made 24 saves for his first win of the season. “Monkey off the back. Obviously the team win means everything. Safe to say we needed it, and we earned it.”

The Penguins earned it by going a perfect 4 of 4 on the penalty kill against an opponent that was 4 of 5 on the power play in its last game. They also took advantage of Darcy Kuemper’s struggles in net, getting soft goals by Jason Zucker and Brock McGinn on shots that squeaked through.

Man of Steel would have been better with a HS Clark Kent playing football. Like, he would just run over everyone. Would he like intentionally let himself be tackled like that scene with the fisherman?

One problem I have with Smallville is that Lois, Lex and Clark all grew up in the same smallville Kansas town

It's like Solo when everything that happened to Han Solo happened in that movie. The Kessel run, winning the Millenium Falcon, meeting Chewie, etc

That scene was just as dumb as anything in Man of Steel.

Why was someone throwing a football directly at the girl taking a picture?

Why does Clark catch the ball and throw it back in an impressive fashion?

Why is the coach the only person that noticed Clark do those things?

Why is the coach so intent on pressuring a child into playing football?

Why is he playing running back after showing impressive catching and throwing ability?

Why is the coach getting all upset over this kid being bad, after he didn't even want to play?

Why does Clark decide to stop hiding his ability and score a touchdown?

Why does the show look like a cheap soap opera, and why does that bother me so much?

I gotta defend Man of Steel on this one.

The only time Clark used his powers as a kid was to save a bus full of children, to which Tin Cup theorized that it might have made more sense to let them die than risk revealing his powers. Tin Cup was so dedicated to that idea that he refused Clark's help and let himself get sucked into a tornado.

(However, that all gets thrown in the shitter when the movie starts doing stupid shit like Clark letting a f***ing news reporter write an article about him.)

Meanwhile, Clark in Smallville is using his powers to score touchdowns in football practice, despite knowing that he shouldn't play. Great job by Pa Kent there not even talking to the coach and making no effort to convince Clark to not play. Apparently everyone is a moron in Smallville.

The way he storms off in the crowd is hilarious.

How did Pa Kent find out about Clark playing football, when the coach confronted Clark during school and told him to show up to practice after school?
