Pittsburgh Pirates fandom, at least from the outside, must be … difficult. Multiple superstars have entered and exited the franchise, even within the last decade, yet the team is mired in constant mediocrity (and even that is a generous description). Consider:

The Pirates have six playoff appearances in the 34 seasons since 1990. Two of those (the most recent) were losses in one-game Wild Card round. Twenty-seven of those seasons have ended with losing records.
Bleh. Stephen J. Nesbitt and Ken Rosenthal published a gripping account today of how the franchise has flailed so much under Pittsburgh owner Bob Nutting. The information is new, but the overarching theme — an organization that can’t seem to get out of its own way — is nothing new.

Two sides of this story, to me:

The Pirates are cheap. One person interviewed recalled a scenario in which the team waited a day to trade a player in order to save $30,000 in “a $10 billion industry.” Others pointed to the Gerrit Cole trade, which signified the Pirates’ insistence on trading young talent before they hit free agency. Cole has made a World Series appearance and won a Cy Young since leaving.

If you substitute “Rays” for “Pirates” in any of these quotes from owner Bob Nutting, he sounds smarter. The two organizations are not the same top-to-bottom (the full story painfully illustrates that), but there is a similar approach: develop young talent, keep a low-ish payroll and theoretically thrive. Both orgs have even adopted the new trend of paying “big” contracts to young prospects. But Tampa Bay wins at this game every year; the Pirates rarely win, period.
PECOTA has them hovering around 72 wins this year, so it might be more of the same, despite a bevy of young talent and some … interesting additions in free agency. Aroldis Chapman’s one-year, $10.5 million deal represents the highest average annual value the team has ever given to an external free agent.

lol at the end. "EVEN IF GILLIS IS A RACIST HE CAN STILL CHANGE HIS WAYS"

way to soapbox, you nerd

You can't argue against what he actually wrote, so you have to make shit up.

"Unfortunately, the appropriate time to start caring about extremists is while they’re on the fringe. Gillis can still use his power to steer people away from his friends’ beliefs, or even better, to steer his friends away from those beliefs entirely—that is, if their “genuine antisemitism” indeed concerns him. If it doesn’t, then sooner or later we’ll all reap the consequences."

You're such a f***ing chud, it's unbelievable.

Did you even read his article? :shakehead Why do you keep defending this POS? :help:
someone copied and pasted it to avoid giving his shit clicks. and based on all yinz jokes I suppose you all should be canceled too. when Mantis used to come here and talk shit on me or Asians or say my family owned a dry cleaner or Chinese restaurant should he be canceled?

heck I remember an instance when I was at the Marlins game meeting your friend Jazz and he signed for the people and you accused me of being an Asian employee for the Marlins. watch out you can't say that. might get canceled.

I've faced so much bad jokes from discord, idiots from the past and I just ignore it instead of rambling in articles about how I'm the victim

"In the comedy world, there’s a popular argument that it does not matter what comedians say or do, because they are just comedians: It’s all a joke, and no one takes them seriously. But Shane Gillis—who has stood by the racist comments that led to his firing in 2019—illustrates that comedians actually have all the same powers as anyone else with a public platform."

How ironic on the very morning that while Morning Joe eviscerated Mr. Forrester and referred to him as Putin's "useful idiot" it seems like Shane has one right here on HF ! :help:

imagine being gullible enough to believe Seth Simons of all people, a guy who will say and manipulate any story to make comedians look bad

You're just attacking him because you can't counter his words.

Your only defense is the braindead take of "Not everything said on a podcast is meant to be taken seriously."

WHAT??????? I honestly do NOT remember saying this but if by chance I did, it was most certainly NOT meant to be derogatory. And I have never & would never make those other jokes like Mantis did, nor would I ever defend anyone who did.

All that said, there is NO excuse for Shane to have Holocaust deniers on his podcast. If you want to enjoy Shane go right ahead, it is your right to, but don't act so shocked at how disliked he is among many because he earned that dislike.

What's your point, that you never stood up for yourself, therefore no one else is ever allowed to stand up for their self or someone else?
No it's because I have thick skin and more people should get it. years of gaming have taught me people are going to be dumb online

You realize how things being said on a podcast has far more reach than things being said on a message board or video game chat, right?

Moving on because dwelling on this topic too long will draw "unwanted attention"...

@PanthersPens62 falling asleep to "Steve Goldstein" after the Panthers were up 2-0 (and somehow blew that 2-0 lead)...yet they won in OT !

It's even worse with voice chat. But EA and everyone else are getting rid of the text chats because I've seen a lot of shit in Battlefield chats but I just ignore it or tell those clowns to shut up.

I'm still unsure of what you're even arguing.

People are always going to be assholes, but that's not an excuse to do nothing and just accept their shitty behavior.

The guy saying racial slurs in Battlefield should get his microphone privileges revoked in the same way that shitheel Holocaust deniers shouldn't be getting airtime on popular podcasts.

1. I had trouble falling asleep last night so I heard the whole game.

2. How many times must I tell you I go to bed with the radio on, not TV, so I had Dougie P. on.

3. Who cares if they blew a 2-0 lead......they WON ! And once again, Matty was a big part of the GWG.

4. I can't wait to see Matty school Tom Wilson again on Saturday !

also who in this day doesn't have team apps on their phone to see when they're playing

My hardline stance against superfluous apps has been well documented.

I have a calendar widget and one of the things on it is all of the Wings games. But it's entirely possible I can go days without checking it.
