The thing about CM Punk is that when he left the WWE on bad terms and told his part of the story, it was entirely believable that management was out to get him and were intentionally trying to bury him. Hunter and Vince are malicious pricks, so it was easy to take Punk's story at face value.

However, after all the shit that's happened backstage at AEW (I'm vaguely aware of some of it), it's no longer possible to believe that Punk is an innocent victim, as now he seems impossible to work with.

Regardless of what actually happened in the 2 backstage incidents we know about, it's the old adage of "if it smells like shit everywhere you go, there's a good chance it's you".
