Pittsburgh hasn't won a playoff series since 2018. This year, they might not even get the chance. Save for a 14-2-1 stretch from early November to mid-December, the Penguins have been decidedly average.

Three wins in four games — including Crosby reaching the 1,500-point milestone in Detroit over the weekend — bolstered their confidence and their prospects.

Honestly, what looks worse for the league:

A team's 10+ year playoff streak ending because they lost to a series to a non-playoff team in an expanded tournament after a shortened season.

TBA winning the draft lottery, leading to playoff teams possibly winning the first overall pick.

The second option is very clearly worse for the league and its credibility.

You can't make the playoffs and get a lottery pick. It's one or the other.

It was called the qualifying round, as in, if you lose, you don't qualify for the playoffs.

"B-b-b-but the league said..."

Of course the league is going to favor the outcome that produces a better storyline, so they have a clear incentive to make the rules up as they go along.

Some hilarious GTD's the past few days:

1. Caps fans with their 3 page GTD for the Panthers game celebrating the tank job vs. the MethCats just to help keep the Pens out.

2. Pens fans just letting loose last night & rightfully so.

2. Hawk fans besides themselves that Chicago actually tried to win that game last night, lowering its chances to get Bedard.

3. Habs fans climaxing their year-long obsession with the Panthers being as bad as possible, furious at how the Pens loss got the Panthers in the playoffs and in an utter panic that the Panthers could make a deep run.

Meanwhile besides the Panthers clinching last night, I was also able to celebrate:

Raise the Jolly Roger!!!

IIIIIIIIIIT's a Marlins win!!!!!!!

The first cycle in the Marlins illustrious 30 year history!!

And so far the only thing DeSmith has beaten in his goaltending career was a woman….
