Outside the injuries, a very successful Hockey "tournament" and from a casual viewer attraction, I felt it received good reviews. Now whether that leads to more viewership for the general product going forward relies on the NHL capitalizing on the opportunity, especially with the NBA, their main competition has had a slight down turn on their product.

The lack of Tage was hysterical to watch last night. Slow Nelson and stone hands Kreider looking like fools while Canada skated around them constantly. Just such a waste to not use him, fresh, when you have guys like Tkachuk hurt and not able to take shifts... IDK what the US was thinking.

Wish Canada got at least 1 penalty against them but why would that ever happen. Guess they're the most clean hockey team to ever exist.
They had 7 or 8 skaters on the ice at one point.

USA only got called for one and it was so egregious it HAD to be called. You're telling me Tkachuk didn't deserve anything with his antics? The refs kept their hands off the game as much as they could for both teams.

Idk..this product was by far heads and shoulders above NHL content... even without taking into consideration the talent level.
The officiating while not perfect was actually competent... they let players play and didn't see much game management at all.
There was actual emotion and actual rivalries in this tournament..
So even if this does generate new fans..I wonder how long they would stick around watching Peyton Krebs and Tyson Jost running around who only provide officials targets to game manage ..

I'm so glad the US lost...I hope they never win again, at anything.
Nothing against you guys but good for Canada.
There's one reason if you think.
Number "One".
Quite frankly I thought when the tournament began that it would be meaningless nothing burger exhibition. The political drama that started to surround it and the actions of the US team in initiating 3 fights within 9 seconds of the first Canada/ U.S. game turned the event into a must watch final. Great marketing I guess but I did not like the overtones and under currents even if it made for great drama....

I think this game mattered way more to Canadians than casual American hockey fan - I'm happy for them, I think they needed this as a country. I enjoyed the format instead of a stupid all star game, and I'm glad that we'll have both world cup and olympics to look forward to. I just wish there were more countries.
USA v. Canada is pretty even match up without injuries. But when you factor in country talent depth, I think that is what did USA hockey in.

It did mean something and Canadian players exploded into excitement when McDavid scored as they should..
But it was pretty funny watching them hoist the trophy ... it seemed so awkward and kinda killed all the vibes

Meh. My sentiments aren't as extreme. I understand them, though. I wasn't rooting for the US, either. I rooted more for players I liked, and Reinhart trumped everyone for me, so I'm glad Canada won.
Brb...I'm going to cleanse myself in holy water after writing that.
My takeaway is how the Tkachuks are just so dumb, almost frat boy dumb. They start a couple "organic" (yeah right) show fights that don't really accomplish anything other than getting fans into it and injuring themselves. Then Matthew selfishly tries to push through his injury and forces the US bench to run short when a couple other guys could have contributed. Raw emotion isn't exactly the best route when there's no plan behind it. People from both countries took dumb comments from a president, and dumb actions from Canadian fans, and chose to devolve into hating on each other like a TV un-reality show. Hopefully it was good for hockey, but my guess is that it's just another small flash in the pan. It's also a poor commentary on how mid-level NHL regular season games are. There's little incentive to play with the passion that guys did over the last two weeks, until April.
Otherwise, the US hockey program looks to be in good shape and improving, but the lack of finish is still there. Big props to the state of their goaltending and defense. US vs Can looks to be a constant coin flip from here on out. Hopefully the next tourney is a six team gig with Russia and Czechia.
