LA took him in the early second. Took Turcotte and Bjornfot in the first.

Kaliyev is fine for a 2nd round pick.... his skating isn’t great but I imagine the kings will put a heavy emphasis on it and ideally make him a top 6 player. His shot is great and he does have offensive instincts and I think after the last few drafts kings def were in position to take risks on a pure goal scorering winger which is something the system could use.

Meh. At the pro level I don't care. At this level I do to an extent. I'm probably in the minority though. If this were some random NHL game, I'd be laughing my ass off. As a USA fan, I already feel sorry for Austria.

I agree. I love me an underdog country and I hope these smaller countries can continue to improve so scores like this isn't expected.

So far, Zegras is justifying his high draft pick. Whoever picked Kaliyev in the first round probably wants a do over

Zegras has more than justified being a top ten selection. He did that and then some last year with his WJC performance and excellent freshman year. All this is gravy on the "how much higher should he have been drafted?" meal.

I started a thread about expanding the World Juniors. On a day like this, I am reminded why it is a BAD idea.

Do you expect "second-tier" nations to get better without being able to play against premier, established teams? At the juniors I think the size is just right. Senior level too. In order to improve you have to play against the best, so to deny that opportunity is improper. I wouldn't expand the WJC right now beyond 10, but I wouldn't contract it either. 16 at the senior level is also about right.

Eh I feel like 3-9was pretty interchangeable on draft day, but I thought zegras would be gone by 6 or 7 at latest, glad he fell to us at 9 tho.

Seider is looking like a fantastic pick in his own right.

If both develop as expected, Seider may be one of the few D in the league capable of shutting down a talent like Zegras.
