Another US vs. Slovakia matchup, play-offs this time. It's doable for Slovaks. Slovaks always play better when they're supposed to lose, not win. Interesting observation was made about the first game, where the US supposedly refused to play as if they were the favorites to win the game (although they most likely were), which threw Slovaks off their game plan. Will be interesting to see who will usurp the role of the underdog for themselves the next time around. :naughty:

That is silly. Makes no sense that US players would play any other way but hard and to win.

But that's what happened, and the US were apparently successful in doing so. The Slovak strategy in the first game was built precisely on what you're saying, and when those expectations turned out to be wrong, the Slovaks were caught off guard.

They wanted to win but I did notice several times they pulled the Peter Laviolette with the Slovak trap and just sat behind the goal. Slovaks wanted to counter and Americans made them come out a couple times

That is coaching. Like having Bourque, who hasn’t created any offense, out late in periods. Effort along with hustle has been there for the US. Passing has been atrocious mist of the time. Finishing has been bad as well.

In pre-game interviews, Slovaks are saying they're now ready for that shtick that took them by surprise in the first game, so the US will need to come up with a different trick in the play-off game.

Face-offs might be the key, really: Slovaks lost them like 24% to 76% in the first game, which is unacceptable on this level.

well, after all of our hours of debating this roster, late nights discussing this team, tonight is the night!!! lol....j/k, but still going to watch and cheer them on...at least like to see them win 1 and get to a potential medal game.

Definitely going to tune in. Hope the kids, Donato Terry and Greenway, perform well.

Well anyway that’s all the guy is saying

I don't disagree. Like i said, good "beer league" teams are probably equivalent to the German second league, Great Britain, Italy, Denmark, etc.. (ie. leagues which aren't really that good).
But Sweden, KHL, Finland, and Switzerland are another category.

That's totally ridiculous.
Good 'beer league' teams would downright be curb-stomped by even Great Britain teams. Most players in GB are ex-CHL/NCAA guys who are currently ECHL level.

This roster is a total joke.

USA Hockey should feel disgraced by this, they had a chance to bring their top Junior/NCAA guys over mixed with the Terry,Donato,Greenway, Borgen college core over there already and the best vets on team for the room.

Having retired players and old washed up bums is a disgrace. I have no doubt the younger style team would be CRUSHING these guys.

I’m starting to think if we are going to bring a power play specialist rather than the ghost of Wisniewski I’d rather have Casey Mittelstadt
