Makes the decision to appoint him as GM also even more puzzling, no?

"I know even the most experienced people don't do both jobs, and you're new here and have a lot to evaluate, and your wife has cancer...but here you go. Best of luck. Putting you in a position to succeed!"
Him and Andlauer have been working together for a long time and have tons of mutual respect. It's off base to suggest that MA handled this anything but the right way with regards to SS personal situation.

I'm talking about the professional situation.

Does it make sense to appoint a rookie as BOTH positions when even most of the most experienced guys generally don't do both....and then throw in the fact his wife is dealing with cancer.

I'm not saying does it make sense for their personal relationship.

I'm asking if that makes sense as a professional organization trying to achieve success.

Is that too much on an inexperienced person's plate?

I think that's a very reasonable question to ask. The proof will be in the pudding.

For sure Staois wants to calm the fanbase and give his guys a chance to recover from their recent play.

You question if the mix in the leadership group has an answer, Alfie and EK had the answers they just didn’t have the final answer

Staois is a hockey genius, but if he was asking me, these guys stay on the mat way to long, they bleed out and it’s a sad weak bleed out not the desperate counter punches off a group that refuses to die

Win or lose vs Vegas, I want a locker room filled with cuts, bleeding, ice packs, red knuckles, broken noses. I want to see a hockey team that played for its life

Bang on. I want to see opponents punished in front of our net.

The proof is pretty much already there. Staios did a phenomenal job this summer from many angles. If the team doesn't win that's not because his wife had cancer.

Good update, and a good reset for many who are tired of the constant panic surrounding a team two points out of a wildcard spot, with new players, new coaching staff, new playing style and system , etc...it is going to be a see saw season until everything comes to them naturally.

And they get better goaltending

He's saying the same thoughts some of us are. But he doesn't agree with those who think we need to blow up the team. The team has been playing well, but not getting the results for various reasons. Those reasons are correctable.
Staois mentioned “situational awareness”. He also mentioned how the players handle different situations in a game and how they respond. He even mentioned “bad calls” from the ref. That seems to align with what some fans have been saying as well. So far, this group has been too inconsistent when it comes to this. So, we will see if they improve in this area and whether we will have a successful team or not.

Glad he said the goalies could be better.

I disagree with consistency. We’ve been remarkably consistent given how we’ve played last 3 years.

How many BAD games have we had? Legit not many.

If you read what I said more carefully, I stated it was that they needed to be more consistent when it comes to handling adversity. Every word you type is important and is necessary when you are trying to provide cogent communication (cough). I bolded all the words and sections that made it pretty clear what I was talking about.

I think our consistency when handling adversity has not been an issue this year.

Better?

Belichek would say the Sens have poor situational awareness.

I’d say the consistency overall earlier in the season was very good but recently they haven’t been on the details at critical parts of the game and we are seeing late period goals, bad pinches late in games, special teams not delivering, just not being detailed in their situationaL awareness

I have no stats to show this but I also feel they’ve been taking really poorly timed penalties and more penalties than the first 10 games. Way to many momentum killing penalties

Well, Staois even said that you are what your win/loss record says you are ultimately (in his own words of course). So, better in some respects, but it hasn’t translated to wins yet, and it needs to.

Absolutely we need wins.

I dono. What is lately? We were all sky high after the Toronto game.

And then we play great against Philly.

Have a bad first in Carolina but weathered the storm.

And play fine against Edmonton.

“Situational awareness” is always gonna look bad when your goalie gives up muffins at any time and also when your team creates chances but your shooters don’t put the puck in the net.

1. Edmonton game - The score (5 - 2) didn’t indicate that, so there’s a difference here in what constitutes “fine” or how people define “fine”.

2. Disagree. The team can respond and bounce back after a bad goal (or goals in more extreme cases) that is allowed by a goalie. Responding to a bad goal by scoring is part of a situational awareness response. I think that was covered by Staois in the presser as well.

So you'd be happy if we held a wild card spot even if we'd played 5 more games than anyone else?

The only standings I care about are the ones after everybody has played 82 games, who gives a shit if the Pens have 1 more point than us when they've played 3 more games.

We play fine after we get scored on. We have stuck to our style incredibly well. Obviously we just disagree. I think we’ve played well. Ullmark has been crap and the guys don’t finish their chances.

If Ullmark makes a save after we score “wow great situational awareness to not give up a goal”. If we score a fluke goal RIGHt AFTER we get scored on “wow great situational awareness to score after we get scored on”. Just phrases people use.

If we played the EXACT EXACT EXACT same way but our save% was high and shooting % was high no body is talking about situational awareness.

Have you given some consideration that there might be more than one issue and more than one thing the Senators could do to increase wins? But, OK sure.

That falls under the "various reasons" that I was saying are correctable.

For example, just having Ullmark play at a league average level would have us firmly in a playoff spot right now.

You don't blow up a core over minor correctable things, especially after seeing a ton of progress this season.

Yep, we had plenty of instances where the team was able to come in clutch after getting scored on. I think back to the LA or Tampa games. We had rough goaltending, but the team showed alot of maturity sticking to the process.

1. I’m not sure why you mentioned that (to me)? I’ve never talked about “blowing up the core”.

2. We’ve also had instances where we weren’t clutch. That is one of the reasons we are 8-9-1 now. Not sure why Green would discuss “situational awareness” if there were no issues or concerns. And Green mentioned responding to bad call & goal situations. The advanced stats are OK, and I don’t (& many others) need a lecture on that. But, it still boils down to wins ultimately.

2 terrible calls in the game put the team short handed,
One included a disallowed goal.
One resulted in a 5 on 3, the too many men though was legit.

okay but they didn't do anything either. there was no fight. same thing in the oilers game.

it's one thing to deserve to win the game and lose because of bad calls, it's another thing to not deserve to win the game and lose because of bad calls.
