He's a good player, you're probably a little disappointed if you draft him at #13 but at least you got a top 4 defenseman, and a big part of it at the time was his contract when we thought we were in a cup window. Nazar seems like he's gonna be a gamer though, might look painful in a couple of years.

He seems to have a chunk of games where he looks like he has taken a corner, then it seems he regresses to some of the types of plays he made when he first got here. His regular partner (Dobson) has not been good, so I know he has changed partners here and there so I will cut him some slack.

Title says it all. I love Romy, but unfortunately he has not moved the needle.

I honestly don't understand why anyone though he would move the needle. Did anyone watch him play with the Canadiens? Nothing about him screamed "difference maker." That's why Lou didn't make a great trade. It's not that Romanov isn't a decent player, but it's that (once again) Lou didn't maximize the asset(s) he gave up in a trade. If you give up a top 15 pick in any draft you should get back someone with more talent/upside/impact than Romanov.

I don't know if it will make you feel better about it but we packaged the 13th Pick with another one for Kirby Dach, and Dach is terrible right now

Unfortunately no - Dach being great or terrible doesn't get us any closer to a Cup.

If another GM used that 2022 1st (and maybe more) in a different deal to maximize the value and get us a better player then the might've gotten us closer.

Better than average value for a #13 pick and also a cost controlled NHL caliber player at the time of the trade.

This was and still is one of the better moves Lou has made during his tenure here. Yes, it’s a short list.

Could they have done better at #13? Sure, but it would’ve been far more likely to have done worse. Solid B grade for me here.

13th pick became Nazar who is looking like a future 1C, so I think we both lost
The guy with 3 NHL games and one point last season is looking like a bonafide number 1? He's developing well but I'd love to see your projections for Eiserman then! Better be top line LW 40 goal scorer.

why is everyone saying bonafide lmao I didn't say that but I mean he's following up his first uninjured PPG college season with a 1.25 ppg AHL season so far. we have absolutely nothing to compare to that. whether he's a 1C or a 2C it's way more valuable that a middle or bottom pairing LHD which seems like where Romanov is heading.

as for small guys having success in the NHL right now, Caulfield and Stankoven and Debrincat all come to mind. it happens

That's my bad, Taswell said it and I attributed it to you.

But at this point in my life I see Romanov as a for sure top 4 dman and I'm happy with the trade whether the the pick used becomes a hall of famer or bust. Because it doesn't matter what that pick does, we don't know who we would have selected or how their development would be. Question is, are you ok with trading a 13th overall pick for a 22 year old top 4 dman? My answer is yes. We're gonna get years out of Romanov.
