Realizing that the IIHF rankings are a flawed product, they're still a fun thing to watch people bicker over as if they matter.
So, I spent a few minutes looking at the U20 results over the past four years and, following their ranking system for the senior teams (http://www.iihf.com/home-of-hockey/championships/world-ranking/) I compiled a similar ranking for the U20s.
Note that I gave Japan points for finishing sixth in their group this year (780) even though they pulled out of the tournament at the last minute. I'm not sure how the IIHF usually handles that. Israel has only competed in one tournament in the four-year span in which they would have accumulated points. UAE had entered one tournament but didn't compete, so they're not part of these rankings.
Interesting that Russia is atop the rankings, even though they haven't won the tournament in the past four years.
The complete list is below, with the accumulated points.
1) Russia (2935)
2) Finland (2880)
Sweden (2880)
