University Cup 2025

The Forum in Halifax would like a word with you. And the defunct Dalhousie Memorial Arena too.
The single weirdest bench I have been on was at Kings Arrow Arena in Oromocto , they have a huge support beam 2/3 of the way down one of the benches … in minor hockey we would do forwards on the long side and D on the short side , running 5 D - 2 would stand and 3 would sit and we could fit that way.

When the Grand Lake Thrashers (crazy good team Werner’s, Jeff Wilson , Burgoyne , Smallman etc) briefly played at the KA or for OHS games , it is the single most crowded bench you wil see

I think, been a while, that the old arena in Grand Falls used to have a bench sort of like the one at the old DAL arena, but only one height, the higher bench so you'd sit above the boards. Guess who face planted on the ice trying to get on.

The LBR will always be the GOAT CIS arena in my mind.

God I love that place, the big end boards , when I was in high school I witnessed some crazy shit happen in that old barn.

Atmosphere at high school games was crazy, people hanging over the glass spitting on players etc ..

At the end of the day they could have told the teams they were heading to a Middle School gym to play floor hockey to decide the championship and everyone still would have been playing under the same circumstances, Ottawa won, the team is coached by a guy who left a hell of a legacy out East, I’ve never heard anything but insanely good things about him, I know MacDougall has a very high opinion of him… I’m happy for them and for him…

My dad always mentioned his last AUS game , a loss in Antigonish when he came over after the handshake line to have a talk with GMac and an extra shaking of hands …

Only thing I've ever hated about Pat Grandmaitre is all the points he point up against us.

The LBR was my first road game, way back in '98-'99. I was glad to be there for the last AUS men's and women's hockey game. While I hated going there, it will always be a special place.

Took in a couple of Wildcats games this past week. I really hope UdeM can host at the Avenir Centre in the near future. I know Moncton really wants to host the Memorial Cup in 2028. So that is probably going to be the priority

Coliseum > Avenir Centre.

What did you end up paying for tickets ? I didn’t think to look until after it was sold out and I could have gone and sat in the upper bowl in Florida for $50 more … Obviously those were post sellout resale prices.

Moncton really needs to ditch the black sweaters , that would be the worst look in most men’s leagues .

No way the old Coliseum is better. It would be cheaper to book it though.

Paid $36 for my ticket on Saturday.

Saw people online complaining about the ticket prices…I paid $30-$40 for a premium seat for one of the games against Rouyn Noranda and thought that was very reasonable. Prices for London’s games were significantly higher I believe.

It’s not a better facility but it’s a better place to watch a hockey game. Avenir Centre is absolutely soulless.

Avenir Centre >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Coliseum. In any and all possible metrics.

Sure, maybe the optics make it look like the Coliseum has more "free" parking (there is plenty downtown), but truth is the Coliseum parking is a big giant mess, only two ways in and out (using the same street on top of that). I'm home after a Cats game now before I was even out of the parking lot sometimes leaving the Coliseum.

As for the atmosphere, that's just Moncton for you. Bunch of bandwagon fans who'd rather have a funeral home atmosphere at a hockey game than having people make noise.

Sitting in the press box at the Coliseum was phenomenal. You were sitting on top of the concourse so had to contend with the heat and grease smell produced by the canteens.

Don't get me started about ice conditions either, last Presidents Cup in 2010, the ice was turning to slush it was so hot in the building.

I do agree on the black jerseys though, they are awful. Pretty sure that comes from Gardiner missing "his" colours though lol. We have one of the, if not the best logo in the Q, and we're jjust going to not use it?

I full admit to having a “hate boner” on for 95% of new rinks lol

I love/hate them. As a designer and when seen 'up close' they are awesome. However, on TV (wide/game view) they are terrible. That's the issue with two colours - if the accent colour isn't different enough, it merges into one. A white or yellow accent or outline colour would have helped.

This (wide view) esthetics of a jersey was something Dave and I were focused on when we created UNB's camo jerseys - they could be 'cool as f***' but design shouldn't imped function and we wanted the broadcasters, stats guys and fans sitting high-up to see numbers easily.

Yes, getting "cool" with subtle add-ons, text and numbers on a camo jersey looks cool in a tight photo shot but really doesn't work for anyone watching the game from the seats. :)

Same reason Belfour’s mask is iconic and I couldn’t tell you what is on a single active NHL goalies mask despite watching 2+ games a night all year .

Off topic. When Ottawa beat UNB last I called it the most shocking result in a hockey tournament I had ever seen. Just two months later I think I just witnessed a bigger one.

Meh … Canada - Switzerland at the 2006 Olympics , you can argue plenty of Canada’s roster decisions that year but it was still best on best .
