University Cup 2025

Well boys …2 more games left of “modern” USports hockey. Gonna enjoy the hell out of them. I’m pumped for next year as always but this is kind of the end of an era for better or worse.

I'm keeping some optimism that it'll be a cycle of players then it things will re-adjust themselves. We're seeing it play out on the women's side of the game. Everybody wants to go to NCAA, then they start coming back after a year or two, I suspect with the high numbers signing that something of the same is going to happen on the guys side.

As for U of S. Their history of performances in Nationals since winning in '81 has been horrible for tournaments "out east", I guess they consider Ottawa to be in the East. Everyone I talked to was telling me to watch out for them as they were the clear favourites if UNB wasn't going to win it all, only to not even put up 20 shots in the semi-final game. Ouch.

Ottawa is going to have to mirror their game like against UNB and keep out of the box.
If they can do that, they have a shot, but if Concordia jump on them early, it could go the other way.
Regardless, we will have an OUA champ this year.

Yes, the OUA east has some good teams that have pushed each other. That conference has improved significantly in the past few years. Concordia was the better team last night.
 
With UQTR hosting next year, the tournament should be pretty competitive and well attended.
I would imagine that they will land some pretty decent freshman with hosting.
With Ottawa getting to the final, it will probably save the gate or it would have been bad.
 
Quick thought on OUA bashing - Yes, they have a lot of "bad" teams but they also have some good teams. UQTR has always been in the mix and now CON and OTT are there as well. If you look at both teams they have 1 thing in common - they're big and can play physical. Looking forward to a good game today.

There used to be 2 teams that I would consider a lock at Nationals -ALB from several years ago and UNB the past 8 years. Every year since 2015 eight teams show up and 4 of them go home after 1 game. It happened twice to UNB since 2022. Other than the 2 teams I mentioned, no one else is a given to win.

I'm guessing you mean 2027 because SMU is hosting next year.

Throw in McGill and Queens and that conference has improved considerably.

Wild ref game for TMU/U of S

Not sure how Galvas doesn’t get 5 for it on D’Intino. Savard 9 minutes kind of made sense

U of S playing with fire very undisciplined. Will stick with my 3-2 U of S
 
I’d pointed it out the other day but reminder for those of you who are like me and get really pissed off about choppy video / bad frame rates etc…

Game is on TVA in French , sink the video up using a whistle and you are good to go.

What are the single game prices like for tonight? Hoping to see a good walk up crowd.

I never did see anything about the attendance yesterday…

EDIT - Just realized the game started at 6…thought it was 7 lol

I must say as a UNB fan I’d feel a lot better if Ottawa goes on and wins the entire thing … Would have been rough to see them go and get thumped on Saturday.

It's the same everywhere. Good crowds at UPEI for the Nationals, but they were Junior Hockey fans.

I recall UNB/SMU playoff games at the Forum with 4000 fans and people leaving, talking about the great hockey, but come October it was the same family and friends.

Look at 2016 Nationals in Halifax with over 9K watching UNB/SFX.

If there was a Major Junior team in FreddyBeach (which will never happen) attendance would drop off.
