The Expanse - Super, super, super, super underrated Sci-Fi show.

Hard scifi that doesn't hold the audiences hands, opting to treat them as adults instead. Don't understand physics in space? You're probably going to be questioning a lot of what happens in the show.

Aside from the science, the characters are some of the most believable in the genre. Like contemporary shows, every character is a shade of grey. You can pick apart the actions of the labeled 'bad-guy' and find logic in their actions, however terrible they are.

Another note on the characters. Aside from Jared Harris (ho plays a Tier-II/III character), and maybe Thomas Jane, there are no ultra big-name actors in the show.

Chad Coleman is known for his sympathetic, tough guy roles in the Wire and TWD. But I would argue he isn't a major name in the biz. Aghdashloo is very well known is certain circles, but your average movie-goer/tv watcher likely wouldn't know who she is. There are some other known actors, like Strathairn, but again he's not a big name. The rest of the cast are largely unknown. More interesting is how every character looks, and acts, like their characters in the books, except for when characters were combined or changed for the show.

Please, watch The Expanse. It's the best Sci-Fi, imo, since BSG (RDM) and B5. It also survived being killed by SyFy :thumbd:, but saved by the fanbase who all but stormed Amazon HQ to force Bezos to pick-up the show, to which he eventually did.

I thought Backstrom was a pretty great show, awesome performance by Rainn Wilson, but it was cancelled after 1 season. It's basically "House" but he's a detective rather than a doctor.

Babe Ruth

Looks wise.. I'm a solid 8.5

This is going back, but I remember being disappointed that Werewolf didn't last long.

A lot of those shows from the early days of FOX, barely had a chance because of limited & sporadic TV markets. Married with Children was one of the few exceptions. But I read that FOX initially thought Married would only survive as a short-term stopgap.
Anyways, Werewolf was a cool show for late 80s network TV; dark & atmospheric. Like the Incredible Hulk in some ways, with a good guy trying to fix his monster within. (they used the Bill Bixby meme, of the lead character hitchhiking away start/end of some episodes).

Gave it a re-watch with my Netflix subscription ending

'Aunty Donna's Big Ol' House of Fun' is an absurd sketch-comedy show that certainly isn't for everyone, but boy can those :eek::eek::eek::eek: make me laugh.

I'm not a huge Anime person, but my favorite overall TV series creator whose works are routinely slept on by Western audiences is Masaaki Yuasa. Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong: The Animation are the two standouts for me.

The latter is probably the most front-to-back air tight show I've ever seen in terms of satisfying delivery and economical execution, all packed into 11 short twenty minute episodes. It has an incredibly endearing and unique "less is more" visual style-- I love its choice to be deliberately rough/non-perfectionist and prioritizes bigger picture aspects like framing/art direction/style over things that don't matter as much like surface-level detail, proportional accuracy, and polish. The soundtrack is absolutely inspired, and it weaves in and out of relatable themes, character development, clever callbacks, recurring use of symbolism/imagery, and exploration of all the different aspects of competition/sport about as well as imaginable. Also has just the right hint of decidedly Japanese off-beat absurdity and dorkiness. The dub is atrocious.

Bumping my own thread to include The Americans.

Kind of heard about this show when it was first being aired, but it seems it was overshadowed at the time by GOT, Breaking Bad, Mad Men etc.

Great show which I got hooked on last month. Already near the end of season 3.
