Zetterberg easily. He's just as good as Toews, Kopitar, and Bergeron but doesn't get the recognition they do.

The answer is Ron Francis.

Most people don't realize that he scored so many points, but he's honestly more underrated as an overall player than a scorer to me. He won a Selke, (may've been two?) and was well known as a solid player, even away from the puck. But I guess he had to be to play with Mario & Jags.

From the players I've witnessed, even a slight bit...
MARK HOWE.

Yes, I realize in the HHOF, but he got in about 11 years too late. Not being even mentionned (while his teammate Propp -- himself pretty underrated, I might add -- was) is a solid exhibit as well.

That's what happens when :

- Your prime coincides with two dynasties you were not a part of;
- Your prime also coincides with one of of the craziest peaks amongst D-Men (Denis Potvin), who also happened to be in the same division;
- Your dad was way better than you were.

Amongst present players? Backstrom fits the bill.

Came here to post that. One of the best two way dmen I have ever seen. Definitely in the shadow of his father, but Mark was an amazing player.

Erik Karlsson hands down, he is by far the best d-men that ever have play the game.

For me, its Claude Giroux, Nicklas Backstrom and (homer vote) Henrik Zetterberg.

Also Sidney Crosby should be no where near this thread at all.

Nobody is as loved at HFBoards as Forsberg is.
Not with the younger people around here...
Some people that barely watched him don't realize how dominant and fun he was to watch.
When not injured he was way more dominant than the current Crosby. Especially when you realize he played during the dead puck era.

Being outscored by his winger, consistently ranked in the top 5-10, so underrated.

I agree with Backstrom, but Joe Pavelski has to be somewhere into consideration here.
Maybe Jamie Benn to a certain extent too.

Still agree with Backstrom though.

7th in SOG
3rd in Offensive Point Shares

Barely 23.

Not every thread is revolving around my teams players, there just happens to be a thread which a player on my team fits perfectly. All depends on how you define arbitrary words like "superstar" or "amazing" but Stepan is unquestionably underrated on the main boards for anyone who's seen him play or compared his stats to the league's best centers.

You can call it arbitrary but if your definition of "superstar" covers Stepan change it.

Tavares tho I'm not sure it might just be how vocal his detractors are with they're cries of him being overrated. Or how Corporal Komarov invades every JT thread to denounce him a third line scrub.

James VanReimsdyk. Guy could easily be a 30 goal scorer, and he is still young.

JVR might be the most overrated player on hf, and a 30 goal scorer… a one dimensional 30 goal scorer at that is not a superstar.

amongst the typical HF posters: Toews AINEC.

Amongst Hockey professionals he's considered one of the top 2 or 3 players in the NHL. Amongst HF posters he often isn't even listed as a top 10 center.

I wasn't even born when he was in his prime, but I've always had the impression that Marcel Dionne was under-appreciated despite being a top 5 all-time player.

Appeal to authority arguments are boring
