He's universally recognized as the best player in the game. I can only interpret this as people thinking he's not up there with gretzky, Lemieux, and orr are under rating him

On this board with Crosby it's either...

"We have someone else to dethrone him!"
"He's back at being awesome!"
"He's back to not scoring again!"
"He's unseated again as the best!"

Pick one depending on how people feel during that time of the week with Crosby, he's not universally considered the best here, but outside of this board, he is most definitely.

I agree with Nick Backstrom as an underrated superstar, he does a lot and when healthy he still produces like a #1 center.

I think Getzlaf deserves more respect as well.

Which players (past or present) do you feel were/are amazing players, that never really got the recognition they deserved?

Sergei Fedorov.

Always dumped on for his regular season numbers, which I thought were the product of playing on a very deep team that rolled four lines (and Bowman's experiments, like playing him on defense).

Larmer. Guy was money offensively and defensively. Shame he wasn't on some cup teams before 1994.

I don't think Crosby is looked at as the best player in the game. He has been lousy 3 playoffs in a row. That's not what the best player in the game does. Honestly, I'd take Patrick Kane over him. That guy is money in the playoffs. In the biggest games, he shows up almost all the time. Crosby gets frustrated the first time teams don't let him score in the playoffs and then proceeds to take stupid cheap penalty after stupid cheap penalty.

Nick Backstrom is definitely the most "under the radar" current superstar. I'm assuming it's because some people think he's a product of Ovechkin or something.

Hate the Flyers but Propp used to kill the Rangers and most teams. Has over 400 goals and 1000 points. Never talked about. Also had 148 points in 160 playoff games.

I'll throw in Adam Oates. The guy is one of the greatest passers of all time, but the credit always goes to his line mates.

I don't know if getz needs more respect just more people understanding what his game is like.

Hossa has always been behind one or two other players while consequently being an integral catalyst in any of his teams' successes. He had three straight cup final appearances on three different teams after being a star in Atlanta and Ottawa.
