Chevy knew that we were icing an AHL defense and so did every team in the league.
Bitetto and Sbisa should be in a beer league.
Morrissey being injured makes our defense even more laughable.
The Buff situation made things even worse.

I know a couple of season ticket holders who are turning their tickets back next season once their contract has expired.

How would you and those fans do in Edmonton or Ottawa?

A couple of looks at the Hopkins goal. Had a couple of chances to clear the puck and in the end it looks like Harkins lost his man. Really like what Harkins has brought to the lineup, but there's gonna be mistakes with a young player

Yup. That's how it looked to me. FWIW.

At some point, every goal against is a mistake by someone. The same goes for every goal for, but it is the other team's mistake.

That was a fairly talented player who beat Harkins.

That’s the nature of the beast when almost 10% of a teams salary cap gets hijacked last second. Our best D man no showed and royally screwed us for this season. The timing of it couldn’t have been worse. Last season frustrated me this season happened for a couple of reasons primarily cap reality but mostly the Buff no show while not having his cap space.

Going into next season without a respectable top 4 on paper would be a problem for me but this season is what it is. Hopefully we continue to battle through and see where the chips fall.

I hope we don't have a 'respectable top 4' next year. The only ways to get one that fast will do more harm than good. I will have a problem next year if our top 6 D are not better than this year. But I don't demand too much better.

Didn't get to watch the game last night but this seems to be the story of this team so far this season. Whether we have a full roster or not when our scorers need to score they can't. Way to many games have we been goalied.

No , we have goalied alot of teams this season , Helly is the reason we even have a sniff at playoffs . You need to watch more games .

I think both are true. Helle is definitely our MVP this year. But we have made a lot of other goalies look good.

My kids hockey team lost a heat breaker in the playoffs giving up the losing goal with one minute left in a 3-2 game. Then I come home and the Jets lose a 3-2 game. Both games were entertaining and fun to watch but the final results stung.

Today is a new day and it appears the sun came up. Both my son and daughter have playoff games and the hockey gods owe me one.

G'luck to your kids PS. :thumbu:

Now will Samberg be ready for those minutes.....who knows it might be a long shot but he is a solid player going into his Draft +4 season and I’m not counting him out.

I think Chevy did what he could do in both these cases of Chiarot and Tanev. Chevy thought Buff was coming back, and only had so much money to spend --so he made an offer to Chiarot, but it was a little short of what Montreal offered, and for less term. It's all he could do.

With Tanev -- what are you going to do ?? everyone on this board, thought Tanev was only worth $ 1.5 to 1.8 mil, and he got over $ 3mil from the Penns.

I think any smart GM, would have did exactly what Chevy did, and that's to be fiscally responsible, and limit his offer those guys.
If Chevy would have known the Buff situation in "advance" it's very likely Chiarot would still be with us, and maybe Tanev as well, although I don't think he would have went that much $$$ on Tanev.--like over $ 3mil ??

I liked both of these players a lot, and their inclusion into the team this season, may have made the difference on whether or not we make the playoffs.

The moral of the story for a GM --is sometimes, you can't keep everyone.
That's the moral of the story for Chevy. Other GMs seem to find ways to keep their key players. Can you think of other examples of key players walking away for nothing because the GM couldn't find the cap space? Why didn't Chevy put Frenchy on waivers ? Even if he's not claimed, we could have buried some of this contact in the minors. How about trading some assets like Frenchy or Kulikov, even if you need to retain some salary ? How about a buy out for a bad contract like Little ? How about going into camp above the cap limit and wait for the inevitable injuries so we can borrow cap space from the IR ? Chevy's first "go to " plan is to do nothing. That's why we're not making the playoffs. I know... easier said than done.

What "key" players did we lose? Frenchie has a nmc and can't be put in the minors and we saw how much cap dump would cost(not worth it). buy out little? we don't have any replacement for him, we would also only save 2.6 million in space this season so that wouldn't be worth it. Why would a team in cap hell go over the cap and hope for injuries, that just pushes the problem to a later date when it's way harder to make those types of trades and would cost alot more.

As long as they had fun and enjoyed their time playing :thumbu:...................there's always next year :)

Is that a prediction for the 2020 Jets' team exit interview?

Missed last night's game in order to watch my kid's team get stomped, literally, in a bad-tempered game with all kinds of hitting where there shouldn't have been hitting and even an attempted spear (!) that went uncalled, promoting a parent to batter on the glass so hard that it broke. So it goes and part of us will be glad of the break -- and I'm starting to feel that way about this Jets season also.

Actually going to kinda disagree with that assessment of the goal, being a mistake by Harkins. Think Copp messed up as well.

Cop chases Harkins D man at the line, along with Harkins. When Harkins backs off he gets caught between his winger, snd Copps center assignment. He commits to the center, leaving his winger. Copp needs to recover from chasing the point to pick that winger up.

Do not love Beaulieu on the boards as well. He didn’t need to be on that center but backed off and picked that winger up as he went to the net.

Started with two failed clears by Harkins. I think that is where the trouble started, and he made a bad read on RNH.

Chariot and Tanev were key players. As a GM you can be aggressive and take a few risks, or you can be passive. Chevy was passive.

I think the problem here is you think Tanev is a key player in a forward group that consist of Connor, Laine, Scheif, Wheeler, Ehlers, Little, and Copp. Where exactly do you fit a player like Tanev when you need these guys? Frankly, you don’t.

Yup. I'm still amazed at people who say that injuries are an irrelevant "excuse", then go on and on about poor lineup decisions and ways the team should acquire better players. If a hunch bunch of your important players are gone for long stretches and you have to replace them with lesser players, it's more difficult to win. Period. This year, the Jets have had a really tough situation with Buff and all the other injuries.

Agree. Injuries are not an excuse when they are frequent and impose a loss of critical numbers of talented players. This is a real degradation in game quality... for example our PP is not well executed and is made worse without Laine. Poor to nonexistant.

Tanev and Chiarot are the exact type of players you can’t afford to overpay and shouldn’t. Completely right to let them go for the price they went for.
Yet we pick up a guy like DeMelo and immediately start talking about how we should lock him up for $3.5m per. Who knew if you rearrange the letters in Chiarot's name, you can spell DeMelo.
