I’m not arguing. Don’t get non fans obsession with what others call a certain team. Fighting Sioux forever bud
I never said I was a non-NoDak fan. I'm a UND fan. My mom is an alum. My mom was born in Devils Lake and graduated high school in Portland, ND before going to UND.

Stay racist, bud.

Anytime you want to respond to my stated position on the UND nickname with something beyond chirping or trolling, I'm all ears.

So far, your only reasoning has been "because that's what it was when I went to school!"

Fill the board with your intelligence. It must have taken you a long way in life - all the way from Grand Forks to Jamestown!

You may want to get off that high horse bud. Yeah I live in Jamestown and have had successful life now enjoying early retirement. Off to my cabin for the weekend. Bye now

GRAND FORKS — Most of the UND hockey team was back on the ice Tuesday, informally skating in Ralph Engelstad Arena's Olympic Rink.

As summer scrimmage season opened, the best sign of the day for the Fighting Hawks was seeing forward Gavin Hain as a full participant.

Hain went through drills and played in the short scrimmage that followed. His participation came one week after he skated at Philadelphia Flyers development camp.

These are good signs for the fifth-year senior, whose season was cut short due to a knee injury in January. Hain missed the final 19 games after getting tangled up awkwardly with a Cornell player deep in the offensive zone during a Jan. 7 contest.

Hain tore his ACL and MCL. He had it surgically repaired soon after.

You know one easy way to tell you're on the wrong side of a debate?

When a Nazi sympathizer like Ralph Engelstad is on your side, you're on the wrong side.
I'm not taking sides here, but can we put this to rest? I think I understand your rationale for not liking Engelstad and I support that, but it's ancient history. Most people who follow a sports team have little or no idea about ownership from 100 years ago; they just care if the team wins.

I support Saint Mary's University in Halifax but I can't look at the team through the lens of Jesuit priests molesting little kids or any other "crimes" the Catholic church has done.

I would hazard a guess that if we looked hard enough at any entity we would find unsavory persons.

I've said before that I'm not all that knowledgeable about NCAA but I like this thread because a lot of you guys are and I learn stuff.

I'd like it to stay that way, if possible.

Thanks.....

It comes down to the context in which the name and moniker are used. Are they demeaning and undignified? Do elements of subservientism exist? Spirit Lake certainly didn't think so. And Standing Rock didn't give two craps as they're located primarily in S. Dakota and didn't bother bringing it to a vote.

Unlike the Redskins, Indians, Braves, the UND logo wasn't some racist stereotype. The final logo was designed by a life-long native artist. UND has never had a native mascot running around the bleachers nor used a racist cheer full of native stereotypes.
I mean in no universe is the Sioux name/logo remotely comparable to the hypothetical Shylocks Jewish caricature.
Shit, I'd say the Minnesota Vikings logo is much worse in this regard.

Well said and like I said had the Standing Rock Reservation allowed it’s members to vote the Fighting Sioux nickname would still be honored

This is how I see the line and D combos for the season for now. Obviously everything gets tweaked during the season so nothing is ever etched in stone

Gaber McLaughlin Caulfield

Costantini Jammer Senden

Hain Schmaltz Blake

James Ness Portz

Kleven Farmer

Jandric Frisch

FWIW, who here has attended first nations hockey tournaments? The Chicago Blackhawks' "racist" jersey is their favourite. Around here, most are Cree but I would guess the Sioux have a similar outlook.

Yo D-Sioux! Long time, hermano. I came to see what your take was on Dylan James. He wasn't on my radar until the Wings picked him. Most of us Wings fans are thinking he's a future linemate for Carter Mazur on a pain-in-the-ass line.

What kind of ceiling are you seeing in this dude?

With the way he came on in the second half of last season the sky’s the limit for this kid. He’s the one I’m most excited to see as far as the rookies go. Definitely a 200 foot player who plays with an edge. Let’s see how this season shakes out but I think he’s going to be a possible top 6 forward for your Wings. As always time will tell. Oh and long time no see my friend. Best of luck to your Badgers this season

Badgers are a dumpster fire, but thanks for the well-wishing;) and the thoughts on James. I'll try and make to this board more often for some smack talk.

Hope all is good in J-town, m'man.

Edit: James is sitting below #10 in our Red Wings prospect poll but I think he'll vault way up the list if he hits 30 points this year. If nothing else, I think he'll be a fan favorite. He seems like a bastard in all the right ways ala Mazur (who I'm sure you just love:laugh:).

Btw, there's a pretty decent college hockey thread on the Buffalo Sabres board. Pop up and check it out sometime.

I’m done with the guy
I'm a little late weighing in on this; but you should be. In our decade plus of reparte on these boards I've found you to be the most straight up of any poster. Even when we've butted heads there's always been a level of respect. Your fandom may be suspect:sarcasm: but your character is NOT.
