UNB Reds Thread (Part5)

That 2013/14 team was a weird one…maybe the least memorable in the Championship era (2007-present), outside the shortened season. A bunch of players left after that season despite having multiple years of eligibility remaining, including rookies Labrador/Cutting/Maclise/Vienneau.
Pretty sure an assistant coach was responsible for Cutting leaving , was he not ? I’ve had some dealings with the guy and can’t say he is my favourite person I’ve ever met

Someone on the QMJHL East Board posted this after the CIS eligibility rule change… thought it was pretty funny…

“UNB gonna go full Monty Burns and bring in the Dynamo Moscow roster on an anthropology scholarship.”

I met him when he was playing for the Baby Habs. Seemed like a nice enough guy.
I guess he just had an abrasive approach when it came to coaching.

Abrasive doesn’t generally lead to a player being aloud to transfer for “companionate reasons” and the coach not being brought back

Obviously it’s really shitty to see so many star players leave…but it is going to make for maybe the most interesting summer we have ever seen.

I’m really curious to see who they (or any of the AUS teams, for that matter) can bring in….and from where. Recruiting isn’t going to be as easy as looking at a list of the highest scoring CHL overagers anymore, that’s for certain.

From a “UNB fan” perspective this sucks. From a “hockey nerd” perspective this is going to be fun as hell…. Maybe you can’t grab 90 point CHL stars but part of me likes the idea of getting a Craig Perry or Lachlan MacIntosh and having to develop them..

Following the MHL the rebuild cycles are really quite interesting to follow.

On the MHL note , I said it above but I really hope Justin David goes to UNB.

Maybe I’ve missed these listed somewhere so likely not 100% official or accurate.
Sproule and Corbeil Austria
Peer Ohio State
McGurn Arizona State
Richard and Plandowski New Hampshire
McCallum Providence
McGinley ?

Would be the first time I’ve heard a specific school attached to Peer and Plandowski. Is McGinley going too?

Moncton looking like they will close out their 2nd round series tonight. As previously mentioned, the Avenir Centre is booked next Fri/Sat/Sun…wonder if they will have to play one of their home games elsewhere?

Regardless where it ends up being played , those would be the games I’d most want to see. I can’t understate how much I hate the Avenir Centre .

From the parking to the atmosphere , the inability to step outside for some fresh air during an intermission etc.

SJ would make the most sense…but would they do Moncton a solid by letting them host a game there?

The AUC didn’t have ice in as of last weekend.
