Not surprised about the women…figured their time was coming soon. I am surprised about the men though…but I suppose by then it will be a decade since they last hosted.

Definitely gives Hennigar a nice little tool with recruiting as well

I see UNB is doing their 50/50 draws online now…meaning you don’t need to be at the game to buy tickets or win.

Seems like a smart decision and should help make for some bigger prizes. Are the proceeds from these kept by the hockey team or do they go to the Athletics Department?

Looks like it was a lively game today. Any of you make the trip down? Curious what happened with Blagden .

Didn't go Tracadie for the game but going by the boxscore her got an instigator penalty in a fight with Les Aigles Alexis Aresenault. He also picked up a gross misconduct so it looks like some suspension will be coming his way. Not that he was going to be in the lineup opening night.

Looks like he’ll be getting a minimum of a 4 game suspension (2 for the gross misconduct and 2 for the fighting / instigator) plus any supplemental discipline added on.

I didn't see the game or any highlights, but just saw the stats. Not a good look for UNB. The guy has only played 13 games in 2 seasons at UNB. If I recall, Bellamy (SMU) tuned him up last year, or maybe the year before.

The instigator penalty is key; otherwise both combatants got the same penalties, including the gross. Not seeing the game, I'm guessing the boys maybe took their helmets off in the fight to get the gross?

Instigator usually means that he picks up extra games suspensions that would have gone to the UdeM player. In other words if fighting majors normally mean a game suspension for each, the instigator would get two games and the "victim" would get zero games suspension.

Basically... Petizian got a 2 for goaltender interference earlier in the period. During the ensuing powerplay Haché got pushed towards Richard and didn't try to avoid him as much as he did. Blagden didn't like that.

When the coincidental penalty to Haché and McCallum ended, Blagden went to the penalty box (afterh the whistle had blown), started hitting Haché while he was still in the box (trying to come out) and Blagden got pushed away by the timekeeper. Then things erupted from there and he fought with Arsenault, then continued making a fool of himself giving a hard time to referee's and everyone else on the ice. He ended up with 2 for roughing, 2 for instigating, 5 fighting, a game misconduct for the fight and a gross misconduct. Arseneault got a 5 for fighting and a game misconduct. His suspension was waived by Blagden picking up the instigating minor.

During the 3rd period he was sitting not too far from me in the stands and told someone "I don't like it when someone touches my goalie." I can respect that, but there are some ways of going about getting your message through, his way was a bit of an overreaction.

Been a few years since Gardiner MacDougall has lost a home opener.
He told me when he got here that he's never lost a home opener. 23-0 at UNB.

1-5 in the pre-season (GF=13 vs GA=26) and 0-2 heading into the opener isn't great. At least they get a point for the OTL. Looks like it could be a long season for them - you need both talent and coaching, just one isn't enough.

Moncton was 2-0-0 going into their home opener…now 2-1-1. They have a pretty stacked team now that everyone is back from NHL camps…they should (keyword) be one of the top teams in the league.

A 68 game season is a lot different than a 28 or 30 game schedule. Not the time to panick just yet.
Definitely had expected them to be more dominant than they were for their home opener given the focus Gardiner undoubtedly would have put on the atmosphere/moment for the group.

But did Blagdon win his fight? :)
