UNB Reds Thread (Part5)

I didn’t expect them to lose to Ryerson….but that team was never winning the national title that year.
That was a weak team by UNB standards , lost Boland and Guay when the league shutdown , had to add Chris Becker to the roster and he actually dressed in games … BUT , the young players on that team were the core of the 30-0 season.

They had already lost the majority of their top players from the 2019/20 powerhouse team during the lost season…and then to lose Boland/Guay at the break they just didn’t have the depth/scoring. They were severely offensively challenged the second half of that season and in the playoffs, averaging only 2.7 goals per game in those ten games.

But like you said, the rookies on that team + Gilmour + maybe their best recruiting class ever that summer has led to three incredible seasons since.

I will also say , somewhat OT …. Kade Landry is the most underrated player to ever go through this program , guy was an elite skater , put up crazy numbers for a guy who didn’t get Top PP mins.

Probably my favourite UNB player ever .

Gardiner always said the first game at Nationals was the toughest. Once you got through that it was smoother sailing. But, unless the Ottawa goalie has the game of his life, and UNB gets into penalty trouble, I don't see them blowing this one.
Yup - everyone is a bit tense and it becomes a 'tight' game.

Last season was the biggest 1st round win in years;

2024 - 4-0 vs Brock (shots 45/12)
2023 - 2-1 vs Concordia (shots 25/14)
2022 - 1-2 vs TMU (37/18)
2021 - COVID
2020 - COVID
2019 - 2-1 vs Carleton (38/23)
2018 - 8-1 vs Concordia (52/17)
2017 - 5-1 vs Queen's (40/15)
2016 - 5-1 vs Western (45/15)

Any update on Dubois? If he’s healthy I’d be curious what they do in terms of the lineup.
Before the playoffs I’d have said take Carson out, don’t think you can do that after how he played .
I honestly have no clue , I’m a huge fan of Dubois but can you even change things at this point ? I honestly have no clue who would come out ? Baber? I can’t see that either , what a good problem to have lol.

That's why they pay Hennie the big bucks.

Have a bad feeling not converting those chances by Huckins and Petizian in the 3rd is going to come back to haunt them.

Feels like everything needed for an upset is happening. Lapenna is doing what he needs to do…making the saves he should and most of the ones he shouldn’t.
