If you happen to be walking down the street and you run into Chris Hansen or Rick Westhead it probably isn't a good day for you.

All jokes aside it's not difficult after reading this to see how things remain quiet. From people working with the OPP not being trained properly. From parents and organizations to putting these kids on pedestals and females fearing the worst if they file a complaint. Everybody needs to be better.

So this happens right around the same time when OHL Onside was created. Such a shame nobody with the league was aware of that 10 years ago....
Everyone around hockey has been aware about this type of behaviour forever. I mean I still see and hear jokes about " puck bunnies". It's sad it's taken until now for something to be done.

That’s what stands out to me the most about the leagues statement. “For almost a decade”.

As was said, this behavior has been going on for decades and decades.

Looking at the roster for the 14-15 Steelheads there's one name, Michael McLeod, that immediately jumped out at me for obvious reasons - now he was only 16, and I am absolutely not saying that he may be involved in this incident because I have no information whatsoever - but these types of incidents are very rarely one-offs.

This article mentions that "some of the players were 16 and may have felt forced to participate."

There are only 4 16 year old's on that team. Outside McLeod, one who is a current NHLer and the other who is a high-profile flame out. But, it doesn't feel like McLeod was the ring leader here (like it seems with the Hockey Canada situation), but it could easily be learned behaviour, and if it was, I wouldn't be shocked if more of these stories pop up.

I've said this on multiple different threads when these terrible incidents pop up...

Something needs to change in the set up of the CHL and junior hockey in general. These groups of elite teenage athletes are not getting set up for a life of success. It doesn't work. We can't keep taking these teenagers, putting them in the same group, and say "hey, figure it out", become good human beings.

16 year olds should not be mentored by 19 year olds, who were in turn mentored by the 19 year olds before them. The cycle continues, it doesn't work.

It's not just the sexual assault cases either - its stories like Eric Guest, its stories of hazing, etc.

It could be continuing the cycle of abuse/hazing, it could be something where he was forced to experience it and saw that the status of junior hockey player gave him invincibility - either way unfortunately I think you're right in that it's the tip of the iceberg, but the only positive about that is that hopefully there's some closure for the victims.

I would agree if that same individual was involved in both instances that is learned behaviour.

The other issue is whether the coaches knew anything. We do have James Boyd and Kory Cooper as current GM’s in the league that were Head Coach and Goalie coach with that team. With how the Chicago Blackhawks situation unraveled with Stan Bowman, this could become more directly impactful to a couple teams if the investigation were to uncover information pointing to the organization having knowledge of the incident. This is not directly the same as the Blackhawks situation because it wasn’t a member of the team staff involved but you never know where the investigation will lead and who will be impacted.

We all know too that it's not just hockey. Pretty much every sport has this going on and has forever. I really hope "we" can all be better and try and make young me (hell men in general) better in their treatment of women and each other.
