That was nice. Malen to Wijnaldum to Memphis and an inch perfect cross for Babel to head in.
I think most people know Memphis for his incredible shot and some of his fancy tricks, but honestly his ability to create dangerous chances for others and some of his final 3rd passing is just as good if not better.

Daniel James with a nice goal from just outside the box. I had concerns that he was more of an athlete but he's been really surprising skilled with the ball.
Russia finally score against Kazakhstan, as I said the other day that group is pretty much settled in terms of top two

Estonia - Netherlands 0:4
N. Ireland - Germany 0:2
Good international window for Netherlands with two wins scoring four goals in each. Germany get a much needed win in Belfast and for the Northern Irish their qualifiers pretty much started today. Northern Ireland still in 2nd but they play the Dutch x2 and Germans so if they don't get any points its the playoffs for them in most likelihood

Azerbaijan - Croatia 1:1
Hungary - Slovakia 1:2
Nobody took control of this group, after Croatia's impressive win in Trnava they drop points in Baku while Slovakia recovered and won in Budapest. One of the tightest groups Croatia (10), Slovakia (9), Hungary (9), Wales (6) with Wales having a game in hand. Can't even go into the calculations in this group as anything can happen, Croatia do play Hungary and Slovakia at home which should mean they are favorites, Slovakia also have two home games remaining too. Overall, nothing changes, Croatia has to win their two remaining home games, Slovakia somewhat recover from their disastrous home loss, the big loser is probably Hungary because they still go to Croatia & Wales + lost twice to Slovakia so they won't have the tiebreak with them

Poland - Austria 0:0
Slovenia - Israel 3:2
Not a great window for Poland who only get a point and what looked like a group which they will cruise got tight. Great window for Slovenia with two home wins to kick start their campaign after a poor start. This is one of the tighter groups: Poland (13), Slovenia (11), Austria (10), Israel & Macedonia (8). The good news for Poland is they have the 'easiest' fixtures on paper so still remain favorites while 2nd place will likely be between Austria/Slovenia, with Slovenia still hosting Austria next month

San Marino - Cyprus 0:4
Scotland - Belgium 0:4
Belgium and Russia can already punch their tickets to Euro, in fact Belgium need only a point from their final 4 while Russia have a commanding 8 point edge on third place with four matches to go. Scotland are actually 5th at the moment. First place will likely come down to that Russia-Belgium match in November but because of H2H Russia will likely need to win by 2+ goals. Overall, this group is done

The result of an incompetent SFA doing absolutely nothing of use for the past two decades. It's an old boys club and until those at the top are out and the Scottish game is reinvented nothing will change.

Side news from the Hungary-Slovakia game, lots of fans from southern Slovakia (of Hungarian ethnicity) bought tickets to the Slovak supporters' section and were openly cheering for Hungary, in the end even requiring the police to come in and divide up the section for "away" fans. Loud whistling through the whole Slovak anthem. For those lacking the historical context, nationalist Hungarians still consider Slovakia to be part of the "Greater Hungary" they feel was stolen from them after each of the world wars.

Oof. Sad, but probably true. Though I will say it always seemed like Robben and Sneijder had no problem co-existing and working together. It was van Persie and van der Vaart that I think were more the problems in that regard. Though the egos and infighting are a very well known part of the Dutch teams throughout history.
Though I don't think it's necessarily the reason they didn't win. Robben doesn't miss his 2 1v1 chances that Sneijder put him through on and it's a different story.
Still, hubris.

Prosinecki stays despite his resignation after a meeting with the federation and then giving him full support. Not sure how that will work out with the players knowing they have a coach who quit on them...

Some good action with Euro qualifying this weekend. Next action looks to be in October. Looking at the standing and Luxembourg is hanging in there in their qualifying group. All the best to them in their efforts to qualify for the Euros.

Barkley over Maddison is madness. Mount certainly at this point deserves at least a look over him.
Not going to happen, they took all of their points so far from Lithuania. Their four remaining matches are double fixtures against Portugal and Serbia. Realistically Luxembourg would not only need at least three points against Portugal, but they would need Portugal to lose points to Lithuania as well.
