U18: U18 day 4!

Yes. US and Sweden will beat them easily if they don't improve defensively.

I thought, on talent alone, that the Swede game would be 4-3 (Swedes are being slept on at this tourney IMO) and then the rest of your games would be in scoring touchdown territory.

BUT, this has a real Skoda vibe to me. Strong roster, slow start, gelling and improving. We know Canada is clutch (great shot block today for instance) and will come together for quarters.

Broken record, but Sweden lost 12-1 to you two years ago and won the Bronze 8-0 a week later.

No Latvia vs Swiss is on TSN. Shame... I'm not saying this as a complaint on TSN.. but I like those matchups and enjoy both nations.
 


Today's roster! Nothing too egregious. Our coach said he feels Sweden is the most improved nation in this tourney (eg. he's played Sweden 4 times this season and they've improved by the most).

Swedes are a massive favorite here. I like the team, the roster and the coach so no real complaints from me.

Doubt Sweden is being slept on anymore for anyone that has watched them, they are talented, fast and well organized....................my fave for gold based on what I have seen.

But yeah. they are teens as you said, let's see how things shake out.

Canada really needs to pick up on the little things though, which are really the big things.

US is my fav as they are just ridiculously well prepared and talented. But I figure it's Canada/Sweden/US this time. FInn's could do it but I think this is a weaker year and next year they have a stronger group again.

Time will tell. Canada has a nice problem... talented players working on details. A lot of 'us' have considerably less talent and are also working on the little things.lol

To make this a game your team is really going to have to battle today, strong forecheck and backcheck all game, no other way.

It's all about hard compete today for the Czechs. Such a cliche but it's true.

Goddammit I've become Craig Button.

We like him, he's the highest on Sale!lol

We have 2 issues from what I can tell.

1. we're not that strong talent wise (don't get me wrong, I like the team and have no complaints and even see future NHLers as our top pair should both make the NHL eventually in Dvorak and Jiricek, goalie looks to be a gamer too and I am very high on Sale)
2. we take the stuipdest penalties in the tournament and are shorthanded the whole f***en time. We even had a 5 minute major against Germany (iffy call ftr) and took a penalty on that.lol

The Swedish PP units must be so excited right now! I can hear the coach now:

'Ok boys, just dump it in and wait for them to take a stupid penalty'

We can overcome 1 with all the cliches... we can't overcome 2 if it keeps up. We may be the dumbest team here so far.lol

Generally speaking, we're always good for one round robin upset. It's kind of our thing.lol

I mentioned earlier we are bipolar. So who knows, maybe we look totally different today. I cheer to the end and am thrilled I'm not at work and can watch in peace! More worried about my Oil later tonight!

Hurtig takes Wikman's spot, Sagadin swaps 12/13F places with Pettersson, and Kostadinski to 7D while Bergström moves up to the third pairing.

I could see at least 4 guys make the NHL one day on here and that's good for us! Especially when 2 of them are a D. Jiricek and Dvorak have been very good. Hrabal should make it but goalies are voodoo. Then Sale.

Outside chances include Skok (youngest guy and another D), Petr, Jecho and Stancl.
 
41 seconds and we are ont he PK.. like seriously, what the f*** is wrong with these guys.lol If you haven't watched a Czech game then you don't know but this is all we do is take stupid penalties that were unnecessary.

On comes the Swede PP! 1-0 coming up!
 
Our clear hit the jumbotron.. back in our end.lol I will say, if we don't get relegated, our PK will be the most tested going into the quarters. Tonnes of reps for these boys.

I've enjoyed Zidlicky's game... reminds me a bit of Raska. Always skating and moving and his some moxy. Not sure if he can score much though. But always noticeable.
 
I'm going to say this now.. I really like Hrabal. I get he may let in 15 goals between now and Thursday but he's a good goalie and I've seen a lot of good Czech goalies get demolished at these and then go on to success. Dostal, Vanecek and Vladar have all been lit up at Junior IIHF events. It's our D that causes these goals most the time.
