Listen, I'm the first to recognize that the US has a huge advantage over Canada is this tournament. They're a freaking team in the USHL.

Canada is thrown together and is missing quite a few players that would obviously make this team better. That said even if Canada had all their best (like at the Hlinka) it's not a slam dunk we'd dominate against the US.

Remember we did win this tournament 2 years ago.

The only way to prove anything is if the US sent their best to the Hlinka (and I'm a bit suspicious why the US doesn't...ya ya I know the reason US fans say they don't but...):laugh:

Congrats US, you are always the team to beat in this tournament and it's a joy watching them.

I don't have a comment on Canada in that regard, but if you look at the top players coming out of the NTDP the past few years, they are literally all amazing skaters. Jones, Eichel, Larkin, Milano, Tuch, Hanifin, Werenski, White, Bracco, Matthews, Keller, Krys. Even the ones outside the NTDP like DeAngelo and Connor are fantastic skaters.

and that has all to do with youth programs in the US that emphasizes skating, skating, skating.

That's ironic.
How?

If you don't like it, you should complain to Hockey Canada to end the CHL sooner, and thus freeing up more players to play in this tournament.

I told you at the beginning of March that Hockey Canada has little interest in this tournament and are content with a 3rd or 4th place finish.
Well I was talking about how USA celebrates their goals. But, this team was pretty good for the first two periods and then just collapsed. I'm fine with how this tournament is since it's going to be in Europe all the time anyways. The CHL is fine the way it is. Some years you'll have really good teams or poor teams.

What a bunch of nonsense. This American team (emphasis on team) has playing together for 2 years. This Canadian team is a group of all stars who've been playing together for 2 weeks.

The Americans should be embarrassed any year they don't win this thing. As Button said this is "their Stanley cup". Every Canadian player started the year hoping to win the Memorial Cup, not the U18.

I agree with you. All I'm saying is we need to put more emphasis on skating.
I've heard top scouts say that the one area where Americans (in general) have it over Canadians is skating. As a people Americans certainly don't have a genetic reason to be fast:laugh:

and to your point, if the US didn't have their NTDP and their under 18's were spread out playing for teams in the USHL they wouldn't dominate this tournament.

The Slovakia game was in the 2nd period, the USA vs Canada game was when the 3rd period was half over and it was 7-2. Considering USA was all over Canada the whole game, I think everyone knew the game was over, maybe except you.

Canada vs USA. If you think one game where the Americans dominated the Canadians is going to change the intensity of these matchups (and how much these games mean to each team), you're crazy.

Watch the Canada vs USA celebrations for Canada at the World Juniors. Heck, even watch Canada's first goal, USA's first goal this game at the U18s.

It's amazing how celebrations becomes such an issue around here. Let it go.

It was nice to see Colin White have a big game and come up with the hat trick. Keller did a great job setting him up on his last two goals. I believe that Keller's now tied with Phil Kessel for most points by a U17 forward at the NTDP with 82 on the season.

Yeah, because up 6-0 against Slovakia in the 2nd and Canada just isn't quite sure if they're gonna win.

7-2 in the 3rd, USA was owning the whole game against Canada. The game is over compared to a 6-0 lead against Slovakia in the 2nd. And it's not a very skilled Canada team either so you know it's over. Everybody knew the USA vs Canada game over. Both games were over yet USA celebrates like they did.

Who cares.

They hung in there for 2 periods...made a game of it for 40 minutes, you should be happy with that and call it a day. If Hockey Canada has little interest in this tournament, then you shouldn't have any interest in it either; and that includes goals, how they are celebrated and by whom, exuberantly or not.

When Hockey Canada changes its approach to the tournament, then my give a crap meter for this tournament will change...until then, I don't bother with it, never watched a minute of it.

This was one of the one of the biggest games of these guys young careers. And little people behind a keyboard have to complain about the excitement of a teenager accomplishing a life long goal.

Get real.

:laugh:Not really true. US hockey does not play them as a team only so they can win tournaments! They pick out the most talented players for developmental purposes, same as putting the smartest kids in advanced classes (which we also do here in the US). It's for the players to benefit from more intense preparation and competition in order to make them better individually. Winning championships is secondary to producing good players. Sorry if you feel this is unfair, but every other nation has the opportunity to do the same if they wish. Now dry those tears and act like a grown ups. It's only some kids playing a game, after all.;)

The U-18 is like the World Championships during the 1980s with the USA being the new Soviet national team. Huge advantages in team chemistry vs squads thrown together a week earlier.

Yeah I understand that, and no i'm not a bitter Canadian who's crying cause we lost this game. I was responding to 2525's post that claimed this Canadian team should be embarrassed because of being blown out. They shouldn't be.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I believe that this is the last game most of those American kids will play together??? That pretty much makes this "their Stanley Cup" doesn't it?

Also I agree 2525, that their needs to be more work on individual skills (not just skating) in minor hockey in Canada, this game certainly isn't the best one to use as an example of that imo.

I don't like HC's rule that an u18 phenom, whose already played for our u20 team, is no longer eligible for this tourney. Doesn't come up too often , of course. But conceivably an elite talent's left watching U18's on TV, for no good reason.

Obviously, with some of our best involved in CHL playoffs, our hastily assembled squad needs all the help it can get, to avoid being drubbed by a well prepared and very talented team USA.

Having said that, this year's squad did themselves proud...playing Yanks tough for more than 40 minutes.

Alas, hindsight being 20/20... decision to bring in cold nettie ( after starter had been lights out imo) turned out to be the wrong one

It is a really stupid rule, although even if Hockey Canada wanted to send McDavid to this tournament, the Otters are still playing. I wouldn't have much of a problem with McDavid skipping this tournament even if he were available. Applying that rule to a player like Crouse though is doubly stupid. Crouse is still a developing prospect and can use all the high level competition he can get...but he had to go and get himself suspended in the final game before Kingston was eliminated anyway...

Personally, I'd love to see changes in how the CHL is structured, play less games, start the season sooner and end it sooner. ++++ a whole lot of other changes... but there are too many people making big bucks off junior hockey and will fight tooth and nail to maintain the status quo.
