I really can’t figure out what the hell is going on with Jost lol. It’s not like all of a sudden he’s working harder or anything. He’s worked like a dog every game of his life. He legit looks like a different player skill wise. Those quick spins and power moves to the net are confusing me. He never had that agility or power at any point of his NHL career. He always tried those moves and looked like a teenager trying to fool a grown man. Now all of a sudden he’s quicker and stronger? Where in the hell is it coming from?

I think he truly thought he was going to be traded and then after the deadline, still being an Av instilled another level of confidence he's never had before that Joe still believes in him

Confidence is a hell of a drug.

Last time the Avs had a C who threatened MacKs place he didn't perform well until until Duchene was traded.

This might be happening again with josts emergence. Two goal game for jost. No points for MacK.

Starting to see a pattern with MacK. He doesn't like being displaced as the go to star.

Another goose egg for MacK. Coincidence or trend?

Really good performance from Jost again, might he be finally turning it around?
I would have been happy to trade him, especially for someone like Drouin, just few days ago, but now it seems a good thing it did not happen.
Long may this continue.

Agreed! But any player who is developing and progressing should see those inconsistent gaps get smaller and smaller. I'm an Avs' who wants to see Jost succeed and the successful games, like lately, become the norm

Should being the operative word...

Jost is too inconsistent, it seems when pressured on demotion or trade suddenly produces. I'm not sure if it's attitude or effort, I would still consider a trade if a reasonable offer becomes available. He's only outscoring 3 regulars on the team: PEB, EJ and Zadorov which are expected to provide defense. Disappointing is an understatement involving his scoring which is likely finishing to be slightly higher than his career high, but still under 30 points. Defensively, he's been playing well and might be more suited to a 4th line defensive role, not the type of player he was drafted 10th OA.

I'd like to see this sort of stuff or close for the rest of the season + playoffs for us to keep him but he sure has looked excellent lately. I'd love for this kid to become something, he's a great human being.

I agree with you but Jost was quite snakebit offensively earlier. If things had broken his way then the negative perception might not have taken such hold. I hope he does well though and proves all of us wrong about him whether it's with the Avs or elsewhere.

He does have a pretty good shot imo, and I don't think he necessarily has zero puck skills or anything. And of course as many others here have noted, he works harder than almost anyone on the team and doesn't really take shifts off (physically at least). He's got that relentless motor that people rave about. I really do want him to break out. It would be perfect timing.

Starting to think we should just scratch Namestnikov when healthier, not that he's been bad by any means. I'd just rather play Kaut and Jost for that sweet sweet upside. Especially Kaut, who I'm a big fan of.

I believe Kaut will be sent down before reaching his 9th game so his ELC would slide. There is no need to rush him during a playoff push. Nam is playing for a new contract, so he'll be a fixture for the rest of the season.

I think ELC slides when you go back to juniors not while playing in the AHL but I might be wrong.

I think you're right that they return him but that doesn't change that I want to keep him up here haha. He looks more like an NHL 3rd liner or better, but in the AHL he's wasting his time. I loved this pick from the start! Regardless I don't think it's rushing him. I think him being down there is overcooking him.

Jost has a good shot...when he has time & space to get it off, as his release isn't particularly quick. That's the issue with Jost and why he's struggled with consistency at this level in a way he never did at lower levels. He's by no means un-skilled, he just needs more time & space to (consistently) implement his skillset than the NHL typically affords guys who can't create it for themselves.

That's why Jost's skating comes up so often, he's not one of those guys who look stuck in quicksand, but he's also not one of those guys with the quickness or shiftiness to create space for himself against quality opposition consistently. And since he can't reliably use his size & power to create space for himself either, I have a tough time seeing him ever becoming a consistent producer...at least without him becoming truly elite at finding the soft-spots in coverages (like a Pavelski) & developing crazy chemistry with Mack or Mikko.

I would love for him to prove me wrong, I'd even be thrilled to see him finish this season strong like he did playing against bottom 6ers last spring...I just have a really tough time seeing his skillset leading to a consistent producer any time soon; especially for a team that plays as fast as we do.

He's shown enough to stay on the team, but with only 18 games remaining there is no need to lose a ELC season. Most likely a few more games and sent down. He'll be a permanent player next season.

Nah it can slide in the AHL as well; see Mikko & Kaut's draft+1s. Both of played those seasons in the AHL without hitting that 9 game threshold in the NHL, and both of their ELCs slid for that season.

What starts the ELC clock is playing 10 games in the NHL or turning 20 during that league year. As long as one of those two criteria are not met, an ELC will slide.

Bura needs tons of time too (his is way better of course)

So I think it could become something. I too am not suuuper confident that he'll break out in a major way but here's hopin!

You are right. I thought when you were getting paid the contract could not slide. That scenario mostly (only?) happens for Euros.
