I'm banking on a 2nd round pick at the TDL.

Although if the Preds are in the playoffs and he is helping out on the PP, I'm also fine with just keeping him and letting him walk as a UFA. We have lots of 2nd round picks.

What does PMD mean?

Hes a PP specialist who skates in one direction. For him to have any value to a team you need to find one where he is their #1 PP option at the point. But 4.5m is a lot of money for that and if he isn’t in that position on a team he has negative value.

Defensive liability who can chip in offensively, he likely gets a 3rd at the TDL

Based on the posters opinions of his value as an Oiler, he’s a cap dump.

Realistically, at the TDL, he could get a 2nd or possibly even a late first - depending on the acquiring teams needs. He is below average defensively but an above average PMD and excellent on the PP.

OT, but I despise the term, it basically is used as a synonym for OFD.

To me a PMD, is someone who excels at retrieving pucks and moving them away from pressure, heavy forecheck...
To me players like Makar, Hughes and Karlsson are the true definition of pmd’s, they can walk the line and make a defender look silly. Great puck moving abilities

Barrie is more of a one dimensional get puck and shoot puck kind of player

Unless a player team had a major injury to their PPQB, I don't see him returning a 1st. Gostisbehere got a 3rd (in 2026 no less) and Klingberg got a 4th plus a second tier prospect. Typically playoff teams already have a PPQB so they won't be forking over a big asset for somebody they might not trust at even strength.

Especially with a flat cap, teams are going to be limited with what they can add at the deadline. Just looking at the current RD:

BOS: McAvoy-Carlo-Shattenkirk
TOR: Brodie-Klingberg-Liljegren-Timmins
TBL: Cernak-Perbix-Bogosian-Raddysh [PPQB: Sergachev/Hedman]
FLO: Ekblad-Montour-Kulikov? [PPQB: OEL]
BUF: Dahlin-Jokiharju-Johnson-Lyubushkin-Clifton
OTT: Chychrun-Zub-Hamonic-JBD [PPQB: Chabot]
DET: Seider-Gostisbehere?-Holl
MON: Savard-Wideman-Harris?-Kovacevic-Barron [PPQB: Matheson]

CAR: Burns-Pesce-DeAngelo-Chatfield
NJD: Hamilton-Marino-Miller-Nemec
NYR: Fox-Trouba-Schneider
NYI: Dobson-Pulock-Mayfield
PIT: Letang-Petry-Rutta-Ruhwedel
WSH: Carlson-Jensen-van Riemsdyk
PHI: Ristolainen-Walker-Attard
CLB: Severson-Boqvist-Gudbranson-Peeke-Blankenburg [PPQB: Werenski]

He was a great PP dman. He is very underrated defensively, at least he was here.

I get why teams would be apprehensive at 4.5 aav, even for just this year. You don't know how he would be on your team.

I could see him have value to a team missing a PP dman, probably a current non playoff team

How did he play with the Preds? He was mostly decent for the Oilers last season.
I felt like the first 2-3 weeks he came in, we were all very "pleasantly surprised". Like, he had been advertised as mostly a "cap dump" who was flat out attrocious defensively. But he actually played pretty well for us. At both ends.

But maybe we were a little "high" from everything that went on for Nashville around the deadline? It was a CRAZY time. Our eyeballs popped, then our brains exploded. It was nuts.

So maybe we initially over-estimated Barrie? Or, at any rate, he sort of slid downhill in our estimation as time went on. I mean, he only played 24 games for us anyway. So it's a tiny sample either way. And our roster was so decimated by injuries for most of that time that we were like a lottery-caliber team on the ice, being barely held together by Saros and a few kids. So it's a really impossible environment in which to draw any firm conclusions. But I think towards the end we were all starting to think "oh... that's what they meant about Barrie being awful defensively?"

Probably a late 2nd or early 3rd in value with 50% retention at the TDL.

Barrie has somehow become underrated defensively. And by that I mean he's passable defensively. But he still doesn't have much value, since most teams aren't looking to add an undersized defender at the TDL.

I dont know if you are trying to be clever but its not working.
You're bending over backwards to brag about you're ignorance. Maybe someone will teach you one day. It's not difficult to look up stats.

One thing I will say about Barrie, outside of his play on the ice, is he came into a situation where the Preds were trending down and the Oilers were trending up, and he really seemed to be "positive" and immediately synched himself up with the room and was liked. He seems to have a very positive outlook about things. I think we've had a few TDL players come into Nashville in recent years who have kind of gone into a total funk with the change. But Barrie seemed upbeat, he was Making An Effort. If the on-ice sample is insufficient to draw any firm conclusions from, I will say I liked the (small glimpses) we had of the off-ice persona? FWIW.
