Tyler Randell Vs. Max Talbot -Highlander Rules: There can only be one

And I would put him in over hayes.

Move Ferraro up. His stat line shows he can put the puck in, so lets give the boy some time on a few other lines.

Hayes has been a black hole.

This is what I'm thinking, or move up Randell to the Spooner line. Hayes has become a huge disappointment and Connolly isn't far behind.

As much as this team needs D it also needs a top 9 RW, even after Pastrnak comes back.

Ferraro is a nice addition and looks like he can play any where in the bottom 6 and fill in on the top two lines when Hayes and Connolly take one of their many nights off.

I dont think Connolly has taken games off. really?

you may be right but I think he plays hard- he needs to watch Vatrano and not pass up shots.

my lines with Pasta back

Beleskey-DK-Eriksson

Marchand-Bergeron- Pasta (get him back up to speed with these two studs)

Vatrano-Spooner-Connolly/Hayes

Rinaldo- Ferraro/Talbot-Ferraro/Randell

Claude drives me nuts with a lot of things he does but one of the things I like is he will sit you or move you down the lines if you aren't playing hard (at least this year), Connolly has had this happen on quite a few nights. I agree he needs to shoot more, he has a great release and shot but he needs to work to get in scoring position. It may be hockey IQ with him, a high pick whose talent may have made success easy for him until he hit the NHL and never had to really learn the game, but since he has been a regular in the NHL he has not succeeded.

I have just seen too many nights of perimeter play from him, when he is on his game he is Marchand lite and those are the nights he usually scores.

I got a feel for Beleskey, C Miller, Ferraro, Vatrano but admit I don't know what Connolly is as a player .You make very interesting points on him and this may be bang on

If I could be either Vatrano or Connolly as a hockey player I am Vatrano. Seems crazy one was high first rounder and other undrafted

I agree, I think Vatrano has a much higher ceiling, better work ethic and similar shot and release.

Good sign that the Bruins signed Vatrano, gives me some faith in the scouting staff as does this past years draft. May not have been thrilled where guys were picked but I expect the first 6 picks to play in the league someday.

I've said it before that I'm thinking Ferraro is a guy we love on the 4th line, one of the best 4th liners(eventually) who can move up during games, but when there regularly he would be out of place.
Bostons Kruger.

I just like what Randell brings to the table more than Talbot. I don't even dislike Talbot, I just don't think he should be playing over Randell. Randell is a pretty tough son of a *****. He can chip in, he doesn't look lost and he can punch your head into the 8th row.

Rinaldo/Randell - Kemppainen - Ferraro

Agreed with everything here, and with Ferraro making a serious impact, i really wouldn't mind Rinaldo -- Ferraro -- Randell with Kemp subbing in now and then for Rinaldo. I want Randell in the lineup every game. Shawn Thornton-esque upside to him.

Connolly drives me nuts, i want him to succeed so bad. He dominates one shift and than disappears the next. I wish he would use his speed and shot more consistently throughout the game. Sometimes it looks like he just doesn't have confidence in himself and just forces a pass.

Well the debate is over for now since Rinaldo just got placed on IR w/ an upper body injury

Following Connolly since he was drafted, I think he has had a bad development curve more than anything. He was rushed into the NHL to avoid a year in juniors and was way over his head, the following year he was sent to the AHL and did very well, and the following year when he should have been in the NHL he spent most of the year in the AHL. When he made the NHL the following year he was used as a 4th line grinder in limited minutes (which he got better and better in as the year went on) until he was traded to us. I think he is slow getting comfortable in the NHL but capable of learning. He's looked better as the year has gone on IMO, of course I might be a little biased looking for good play wanting him to succeed.

assume with kelly out and talbot not high on sweeney's radar, the GM is looking for a left-shot, bottom 6 center that can win some face-offs. if nashville is trying to create some cap/budget space for a highly paid offensive center (staal staal staal?), maybe gaustad gets shipped out. great face-off guy, especially in the D zone. his best days are behind him but think he's still serviceable in a small role (and cap space won't be a problem for the b's).

ps...i like randell and how they've eased him into the lineup. would like to see more of him, but so far so good.

With Rinaldo going down, go for Kassian and see if "3rd times a charm" for him.

Last game before All-Star break, Talbot puts up another beauty of a -4 game.

Ferraro (pointless in 17 straight games!!!) was a much tidier -3.

Julien talks about wanting to have consistency with the energy levels from this team and he completely neuters them first. ******* coach.

The 4th line this year is worse than last year. Yes, I mean it. Funny, I think with Kelly on that line it becomes a passable line. That -8 from Talbot and -11 from Kemp is just brutal. With Kelly on the roster, neither of those guys needs to be in the lineup.

Yeah but he and Ferraro combined for one registered hit last night. . .

Its got to be a penalty kill thing.

Of all teams to field a soft lineup against,WTF is Claude thinking? He sounded like Dave Lewis in the post game,he makes me so ****ing frustrated at times.
Last night was unacceptable

I'm so mad, I could spit. So weak. This is not the Bruin's way. Embarrassing.

I've already spoken my piece in two other threads about this, so i'll be brief....maybe.

Talbot was once an effective fourth liner. Those days are gone. Way gone. Leadership and experience are both good attributes to have, but NOT at the expense of healthy, speedy legs, offensive ability, and overall grit. Talbot doesn't have the guts to be as effective anymore.

Don't even get me started on Kempainnen. That ****er is completely useless. I literally cannot recall seeing him do ANYTHING on the ice any time i've ever seen him play.

Rinaldo has been useful, if nothing else, and Ferarro has shown moments of ability, but to be frank, Rinaldo's still a bonehead at times (he's improved somewhat, i've noticed) and Ferarro...I mean, the dude was a Red Wing. We all know that only a handful of Wings players were ever anything but soft as hell.

Put ****ing Randell in. This guy IS the second coming of Thornton. If Clode is gonna give any time to the kids, Randell deserves a bigger chance than almost all of them. He's already ready to go, even if his ceiling isn't going to get any higher than it is now.

Enough said. Lose Talbot, lose Kempainnen, keep Ferarro if you have to. But Talbot and Kemp both have to go. They're not helping at all.

Last night was a hard pill to swallow. Watching Krug have to stand up to Stewart, and having nobody in the lineup that can do squat about it. That was garbage. Even Jack & Brick commented on it.

I'm not a big advocate of fighting, but I'd like them to field a tough lineup when they are able, and there really is no excuse for it. Talbot isn't bringing anything to the table that Randell couldn't bring. And Ferraro's magic has worn off, and while I like him, he's back to being the guy that got waived.

I never thought I'd say it, but I miss Kelly and Campbell.

For christ's sake, THEY wouldn't have stood by idly watching that ****show take place. Randell wouldn't either.

I remember when Colt started a thread about needing a HW fourth liner a few seasons back; that thread seems more accurate with each passing year. This team keeps sending the wrong message takign guys like Rinaldo and Randell out of the lineup. Ducks pulled out the bull last night because they KNEW they could do it, and who's gonna stand up to them? Bergy? Chara? Hell, BELESKY should've done something!

I hate watching this team lose, but what I even hate more seeing is watching them get punked and mugged like last night....and nobody does a thing about it. It's disgraceful.

We'll see Randell playing for someone else in a year. Just like Hendricks, Rousell, Thomson etc.

Not for nothing, but Hendricks was traded for Boychuk. Pretty return for an AHL free agent signing that never played a game in Boston.

This thread should be renamed Kemppainen vs. Randell, cause to me it comes down to one of them going if/when the rest of the roster is healthy.

I'd vote for Kemppainen, without question.

But based on Claude's usage (or lack thereof) of Randell, especially him not playing the Anaheim game, it will likely be Randell.

From what I've seen, Randell has done absolutely everything right in his short playing time with the B's.

Claude heavily favoring a vet like Talbot over a younger player that makes mistakes, but with a higher ceiling, is annoying. Claude heavily favoring a vet like Talbot over a younger, tougher guy like Randell who has seemingly been mistake-free, is enraging. There's just no rhyme or reason for it. Not that I would ever condone a player publicly speaking out against his coach, but I almost look at it as a sign of disrespect from Claude. The fact that a guy can work so hard and succeed playing for a coach, but ultimately get the short end of the stick "just because"....it blows my mind.
