I see him on a line w Rooney and Hunt/Reaves

Vatrano when Kakko is back likely slides down

A lot of options

Motte is a solid bottom 6 addition. A steal for a 4th, if Canucks were more in the playoff hunt they wouldn't have done this deal. Was very liked by his teammates in Vancouver. Great speed & motor, good PKer, can chip in with the odd goal here and there. Great 4th liner but not terrible on a 3rd line either I don't think. You'll like him.

Very good add.

Motte won the Nucks version of the Steven McDonald Extra Effort award so you know what you are gonna get there.

On a side note, Motte has dealt with anxiety/depression his entire life and has been a big advocate for mental health.

Has a lot of off ice things he did out in the community there and is recognized for having the courage to recognize it and speak about it to help others.

Big character guy who is gonna help this team in the playoffs

I don’t want to play armchair psychologist (we’re bad enough at armchair GM) but Kakko does seem to deal with anxiety or some sort of problems with getting out of his shell. Maybe Motte can be a positive influence on him.

I was going to mention that and stopped myself because we really don’t know if it’s a thing with him.

But I can’t help but wonder if this was another consideration in bringing Motte in whether it be Kakko or someone else.

Maybe, maybe not - but I always like to think that some GMs/FOs would be savvy enough to target qualities players provide off the ice as well as on it.

Kinda have seen that value In Reaves a little, with what he provides in his own way too

The posts above have already covered what you're getting and it's appropriately appreciated.

I haven't talked to anyone out here in Vancouver that likes the deal. I liked him because he was there EVERY shift. I don't understand the deal... the Pick is not his value (at least a 3rd. Maybe a second?) If the Canucks were tanking, then more should have left Vancouver. If the Canucks were making a push, then he should have stayed.

Good for the Rangers, though.

I mentioned Motte maybe a week ago. I’m curious what his next deal will look like. He’s kind of like Fast but a bit more overtly physical. I wonder if Drury specifically makes him a priority to help continue to build the bottom-6.
