Iginla is another old guy, but a pretty big upgrade compared to the current Sabre old guys. Last year there.
Varly is a huge upgrade in net for the Sabres.
Who knows if Ennis will ever play another NHL game.
Kane is obvious.
So essentially it is:
Reinhart
for
A very decent goalie and the ability to get rid of problem players/contracts.
Sabres need to give up something of quality to get rid of Kane/Ennis. A good Kane who got arrestedc weekly was atleast valuable. A crappy Kane is tough to move obviously.
The Vancouver Canucks just walked away from a Kane trade because Tim Murray wanted a ton for Kane. They were willing to offer something, just not enough for Tim Murray. So now,you think he will not only throw in Ennis, he will throw in Reinhart as well? Come on now. That's completely ridiculous.
Tim Murray is in no way shape or form desperate to get rid of Kane. Or Ennis for that matter. Both add value on the ice for Buffalo. Tim Murray said straight up that they only way he'd get rid of Kane is if it made the Sabres a better team. Buffalo's goaltending duo is ranked in the top 3 in the NHL in save percentage. Lehner has been very good and Nilsson has too. Plus you can only protect 1 goalie come this summer's expansion draft. So trading away Kane, Ennis and Reinhart for a goalie we don't need makes us a much, much worse team. You're taking away 2 (or 3 if you count Ennis) young top 6 players from Buffalo (one is 21 the other is 25) and replacing them with 1 guy who is about ready to retire and a goalie we don't need. That makes Buffalo a worse team for many years to come.
So, you think Buffalo is going to give up Kane, Reinhart and Ennis for someone who isn't even an upgrade in net, and then they'll lose either Varly or Lehner (who they just gave up a 1st for) at the end of the season...
And I know you say Varly is an upgrade, but he has a .904 save percentage right now, and Lehner has a .922. Sure seems like Lehner is playing better to me... (Again, Buffalo's goaltending duo is ranked #2 in the NHL I believe. Goaltending hasn't been an issue for Buffalo in forever. Every goalie we get plays great here).
Also, If Ennis doesn't play another game (which he will), Buffalo will just put him on LTIR or sell him to a team like Arizona with an extra draft pick or prospect.
And I know you say Kane has negative value, but there sure has been a lot of trade rumors surrounding him for a player with negative value... It's been reported that Vancouver, Minnesota and LA have been interested just within the last few weeks. They are likely looking to pick him up cheap, and obviously Tim Murray has refused to do it. Seems like if he wanted to just give him away cheap, he's have done it for now. But Tim Murray himself said that he's not going to sell low on Kane. So that likely means Buffalo just keeps him until the deadline next year and trades him as a rental.
