Regardless of what you think of Rask; when you are the 7 million dollar man, rightly or wrongly, it looks bad when you don't play the final game of the season.

Yes I get he was ill, to what extent I don't know. I've had really bad food poisoning once, I couldn't get out of bed. But the players on the team know how sick he was, if they don't have a problem with it neither should we. However, if they think he was being a baby, ship his ass out of town.

That's definitely a fair take and I agree with your line of thinking. I just have issues with people faulting him without knowing anything about the backstory other than "it was coming out of both ends"

I'm not the biggest Rask fan, but I can't fault him at all for not playing. We don't know how sick he was. Only he knows. If he was nauseous and vomiting or had the runs, then there's no way he should have played. What would he have done? Defecate himself and take off his mask to vomit on the ice all game?

If he was somehow sick for every big game, then I could definitely understand people questioning him.

Agreed.

I think it's incredibly unfortunate and frustrating that you pay this much for a goaltender and he's not able to play in the biggest game of the year. Certainly a part of me wonders how the hell he got sick before such an important game.

But if he's as sick as it was reported he could not have played yesterday. I think it's ridiculous for people to think a goalie can be vomiting/having diarrhea and play well in nets. If it was a cold or generally feeling under the weather I would feel very differently about it. I understand and join in being frustrated in Rask's season but this is nonsense to me. As if they're going to let him stop play every time he needs to bolt to the bathroom. And Claude would have to be a lunatic to put him in nets in that kind of state rather than playing a back up who has been capable for us this season.

I bet most guys critizing Rask for not playing only get their lazy ***** off the couch to get a bag of potato chips.

The guy was sick. Just try sitting still with massive diarrhea.

Besides, Bruins played the most pathetic (meaningful) game I have witnessed in a very long time.
When you score a total of 3 goals against the Devils, Canes and Sens you shouldn't be finding fault with Rask not ******** his pants on the ice.

If they want to trade Rask, which I hope not, they need to go to full rebuild mode, just trading Rask won't solve issues and probably, likely would create a new defensive issue.

Rask has played in the Olympics and Stanley Cup finals. You have to be out of your mind if you think he faked being sick due to stage fright. As I've said before, blaming him - even a bit - for yesterday's loss makes anything else you say about him completely worthless.

The vast majority of what the "haters" say about Rask is already completely worthless.

Rask playing in the more stressful/important game against Detroit doesn't fit into the conspiracy but, whatever, here goes:

Rask was faking it, Obama izn't American and Reptilians live among us.

If you're going to say an athlete has stage fright... Don't say it about a pitcher, quarterback, or a goalie. Because they would have quit LONG ago if stuff like that affects them that badly.

Yes he shouldn't get all the crap about not being able to play while sick.
But besides that I really think this soft guy is not the person who will help us get the cup. He can't win the big game. I really think this guy is a nervous wreck. Lets trade him for a top defenseman.....lol

Could have sat him on the Ottawa bench. Maybe would have helped us.

I dont think he is THE problem. But if we are indeed rebuilding why waste 7M in a goaltender? A lot of teams are doing better with lesser talent.

Maybe Claude made Rask some E Coli cookies because he figured he had a better shot of not getting fired if they lost without Rask in net.

I'll be selling tin foil at $20 a roll. PM for details.

He did play in the biggest game of the year. Against Detroit.

He can't win the big game.

What is actually the "big game"? An elimination game? Sorry, but 29 goalies lose that kind of game every season.

Rask held the Pens to 2 goals in an entire searies.
He shut out the Blackhawks after that ... they weren't held scoreless the entire season.
But ... but ... the defense was so great. And he couldn't make that all important save in game 6.

If Ryder hadn't made that save in game 5 5 years ago, we all would be talking about how Thomas couldn't win the big games.

Yes, Rask was sub-par this season, but give this guy a break.
Every goalie gets lit up once a while behind that atrocious defense.

You are right. It's a way different sport, one that is more demanding when one is sick than playing goalie.

Oh and it's really too bad that an athlete might lose if he plays. Brilliant logic once again. Why bother competing at all because you may lose and be ripped by anonymous posters on a message board?

You can keep on dismissing valid complaints if you want, but it's absolutely true that many athletes have played with the flu. I'm sorry Rask didn't and it might not have made a difference yesterday, but in a must game for the team's season to go in with a total JAG in net hurt his team.

You make the effort.

As if all cases of flu are the same. You're no "Dr.".

Of all the ridiculous things to suggest, a lack of competitiveness in Tuukka Rask is HIGH on that list.

Just my opinion obviously, but I don't think it's ridiculous to question how competitive Rask was feeling behind this team this season.

Certainly people I respect have questioned his body language, aloofness this season.

I think this has been a pretty rough season for our core, they know they are in their primes right now and are used to being succesfull and new even before the season started they weren't going to be a top team in the league.
It's not easy to see your team to lose more talent than add year after year.

If you are competitive guy that's not really encouraging to witness.

Posting this again:

Not a loaded question, just thinking about this with it happening to Tuukka twice: how many instances can you remember of a goalie missing a huge game due to illness?

I'm not the first to say so, but the Bruins no longer have a core. I realize how this sounds, but the players once identified as essential elements are no longer good enough to carry this club. It's time to move on. Especially if dismissing Claude Julien is in the cards.

If at all possible, I would trade DK46, Zdeno, and even Rask.
Sweeneely may as well begin a rebuild in earnest.

"Half pregnant" & hoping a roster composed of increasingly less effective veterans, overwhelmed newbies & "space takers" isn't going to get it done.
