If you don't know anything about a situation don't comment on it without research. This is the summary of this thread.
I cannot believe how many comments I have seen that Tulsky needs to be fired. This guy was behind almost all of the moves the Canes have made over the course of his tenure since he was promoted to Director of Analytics. All the moves Carolina makes are approached using data/analytics as you can see with most of their players they acquire. I would say Rantanen, Kuznetsov, and Roslovic are some of the players who weren't really analytic friendly, but atleast Kuznetsov and Roslovic had good microstats. I can't believe Tulsky is being made out as some dumb guy who Canes just picked up off the street, this guy had a damn PhD, and I know that doesn't matter, but he has also wrote about hockey since the 2000s. He is not new to the front-office and has been with Carolina since 2014-15. I am sure he knows how the deadline works and I think it's hilarious that people keep saying that he could've set the framework of the Boeser trade while finishing the Rantanen deal. If that was true don't you think the trade would've been done? Also, it seems more like the Hurricanes didn't like Vancouver's price and vice versa so that's probably why he said they didn't have enough time to counteroffer. Boeser also has been a consistent 50-60 point player he is barely worth a first as it is. I do think adding the prospect was too much, but at the end of the day Boeser is a free agent and now the Canucks are going to lose him and get nothing back. Atleast if they made the trade they could've got the Dallas first round pick or Canes first round pick (which to some people should be low since they think the canes are imploding)
The Rantanen deal wasn't necessarily about going all-in, I doubt Tulsky thought the Canes could win a cup with Brent Burns as RD1. I think it was more so setting up the team for the next 8 years that in one of those years could've won the cup. Carolina actually thought they had a chance at signing Rantanen because his agent said that they would agree. However, I think that the agent believed Colorado was bluffing with trading Rantanen, so it was a shock when it actually happened. Should the Canes have actually finalized a sign and trade? Yes! But I don't think the Canes worried about it because I imagine Rantanen said that he didn't want to think about extending due to the shock of trade. Also, to the people saying the Hurricanes fumbled the situation is hilarious considering they got an insanely good return and the best return for a sign and trade in NHL history (go back and look at the Vanek return).
Tulsky 100% built this team with his analytic approach. This team is going on to it's 7th straight playoff appearance and that still takes good management to actually do that. The Hurricanes drafting has been ridicuously good and that's because they have taken a data-based approach and Darren Yorke is doing a hell of a job, they also took Jokke Nevalainen a few years ago who was one of EP's best scouts. Additionally, they have AGM Tyler Dellow in the front-office who just like Tulsky was a hockey analytic pioneer.
Lastly, about the center depth in Carolina. Rod Brind'Amour took a team with Staal-Wallmark-McKegg down the middle in the playoffs and made the ECF (I know he didn't win a game). Rod will get the best out of his players no matter what. I think there is a path to the Canes winning the cup and that only relies on Kochetkov and the powerplay. Kochetkov has been one of the best high danger goalies in the league this year but lets in a lot of soft goals. However, I think he is the Canes goalie with the most potential to actually carry them.
