Maybe you don't know how this works? You don't need the Dallas trade to be sent through to negotiate and setup a deal with Vancouver.

Amusing that you’re pulling the “maybe you don’t know how this works?” line while criticizing a guy who has been in an NHL front office for over a decade, including AGM/GM for the past five deadlines.

Pretty sure Tulsky knows how deadlines work. The information gap here is that none of us know what happened behind closed doors, or even the details of what Dhaliwal is reporting here.

And the rumours about this offer are:
  • The offer was Boeser + <prospect> for Kotka + 1st
  • ... but the prospect was a big sticking point for the Nucks, and the main reason they declined
So I do think it's quite likely the offer was Boeser plus one of Lekkerimaki, Willander or D Petey for Kotka and a 1st, and Allvin turned it down. Personally, I would've turned that down too.

Definitely sounds like a last second "take it or leave it, and don't read the fine print" type of offers.

Boeser for a 1st - take it and run
Boeser for KK and a 1st -consider it for sure
Boeser + top prospect for KK and a 1st - ridiculous, like what is the goal of this trade?

My guess is that the trade was Boeser and a middling prospect for a 1st.

Yet the Canes were still trying to trade KK. As he has proved he can play center but only mediocre at best.

Unfortunately slotting Kotkaniemi in there only slightly makes it stronger. But not enough where you wouldn’t miss an opportunity to unload his contract

They only had 500k until the deal was officially done, which felt completely different that day. The deal was announced as cancelled halfway through the morning of the deadline before it became clear that had just hit a snag and they kept going at it - talking about the stars and the contract. Everything we heard that day and since indicates they had their hands tied because they couldn’t officially go after anything until the official word that the contract was done.

I don’t get the whole coming at Tulsky about this. Do we think he took a nap during deadline and day and oooopsie…..I missed trades? Why do we think there’s misinformation here other than you just don’t like the Canes or Dundon so this is your stance?

I assumed the market for Boeser was stronger than it apparently was and Carolina / Vancouver had worked out a conditional deal that fell through. Sounds like no one actually wanted Boeser cause of health concerns. Boeser not being moved was the biggest surprise of the deadine for me, seemed almost certain he was going and Vancouver lost out an asset because of the back and forth.

Yeah, no. For a postseason run, they weren't going to run Jankowski at 3C. You can always deal the KK contract in the offseason, if you want to.

That's more or less what Patrick Johnston's article said. In other words, Carolina wanted to clean up their mess by getting a good prospect alongside Boeser while dumping KK. It was an awful deal for Vancouver. Hence why Allvin declined. There's no reason we'd be giving up any one of those prospects in a Boeser trade.

So according to this report the Canes wanted Vancouver to give up Boeser (a coming UFA) plus add a top prospect, while taking back the KK contract and a late first. Of course Van would say no to that. They’re better off keeping Boeser and their top prospect and having the added near 7 mil in cap come July 1.
Seems like the Canes got screwed over in the Rantanen saga and tried to save face by winning a trade.

Carolina thinks Jesperi K has a lot of value, especially since the 2/3C for Vancouver is...?
