Good, trade him for a LW and have Toffoli play 2nd line RW.

Id be happy with this.

Theres a great opportunity here.

I don't know about Gallagher, but these lines are exactly the ones I would put in place to start the season. I would put Drouin with Suzuki and Toffoli though and I'm sure you wouldn't :P

The problem with Anderson's contract is that it pays for POTENTIAL. Gally wants to get paid based on ACHIEVEMENTS.

Communication breakdown, different expectations...??

Anderson's deal takes him to his 32 year old season.

Gallagher's agent saying the market will give him 7 year deal. He's likely asking for 8 from Montreal, which will take him to 35.

That's a big difference. If MB could sign Gallagher through his 32 year old season, like Anderson, but with a higher cap hit, the de as l would be done.

One: I wouldn't trust Vancouver sources.
Two: Gally is not the heart of this team and has never had playoff success. People are attached to him the same way they were to Patches before.
Three: It would be indefensible to let him walk for nothing, choose one of two options: trade him or sign him.
Four: His play is already falling off, I lean towards trading him. Try to get a great return for him akin to Patches.

The thing is, we all know what ought to be done. Gallagher should not get huge term, not because he doesn't "deserve" it, but because you want to pay for what you think you'll be getting from him going forward.

But there are 31 other GMs out there, and I think gallagher's camp knows that his services will be valued on the open market, and it will likely drive his term up to to 5 years or more.

Therefore, I don't see how Bergevin can get away with giving him a shorter deal....and if I'm Gallagher, when opportunity to lock up long term comes, I take it because his body can break down on him sooner than later with the way he plays the game.

It will defintiely take 5 years minimum IMO to keep him from testing the open market.

Don't say those things to me. Drouin with Suzuki... Jeez.

Theres a really great opporutinity to have Gally shipped out at the peak of his value and have Caufield as a back up insurance if things dont workout with one of the two new acquisitions, I don't see a real reason not to go for it aside from emotional attachment towards BG.

The thing right now is Gallagher is expandable with the latest acquisitions.

what I find weird is Mb recently saying Gallagher will become Habs most paid forward, yet négociations have stalled. Something isn’t right. One scenario is MB knew Gallagher was asking too much and decided to sign Toffoli in case Gallagher would not drop his askings.

If BG was 4 years younger it would be a no brainer to resign him long term.

I would try a 4 yrs x 6MM deal, but if he wants anything more than that trade him and then try to get another winger on a 2-3 year deal.

look habs want to keep him, but his contract must make sense and fit into the habs cap. I can NOT blame Gally to go if he can get 3-4 mil more elsewhere or someone gives him a 7-8 year 7-8 mil per with a full NTC. If Habs cant fit him against the HUGE offer from someone then habs MUST revert to the old saying, sell high and buy low.
Gally would bring great assets for sure.

- Hey Gally, see what Toffoli got? We can even go at 4.5M$ per for you.

(...)

- Stop bringing Josh Anderson in the discussion, you live in the past.

More seriously, I would offer 3 options :

4 years @ 6.5M$ per
5 years @ 6.25M$ per
6 years @ 6M$ per

Can we get something similar from a Gally trade than with the Pacioretty trade?

Contender teams with cap space would dream of adding someone like Gallagher.

There is still a ton of time to get this done. Gallagher is such a fantastic hockey player, even if it doesn’t always show up on the score sheet. I’d be shocked if he isn’t a hab long term.

Gallagher and Danault better not pout this season. For the first time we spend cash to have a better team, they better play at full potential for the team.

Lol I also consider this a material risk now with this headline paired with Danault’s previous comments about icetime

Dhaliwal doesn't throw crap at the fan to see if it sticks. LeBrun is now also backing up what dhaliwal said too.

I thinks it's time to trust it.

6.5m for 6 is perfect. Makes him highest paid forward. Brings him to 35(which is a stretch but gotta concede a little).

Anything more than that-you trade him for a LW 1vs1.

Well said. Theres no reasons to keep him around, especially after we've seen what trading a top guy can yield.
