We're not getting a center that is 5'9 to play anywhere near the bottom 6. He only has 16 points on the season and is often injured. He has only played one season of 82 games and a couple 80 games. He will be 34 in December. This is NOT the guy the Leafs should go after. If Tre trades any of our top prospects for this guy I'll puke. Dreger is great at starting rumours. Has Dreger actually ever broken a trade? Gourde is a non starter. Jarnkrok and Kampf are both better players. Playoffs you need guys with size.

Proven playoff performer and Cup winner.
Leafs pay a lot to get that. And with the Tanev injury last night they might add Luke too. All in this year.
Jarnkrok and Kampf are very VERY not better players, especially not Kampf.
Also why is him being 34 in December relevant he's a rental.

Apparently a number of scouts were at a recent LAK/VGK game, including two from Toronto. Consistent with our club's needs, if Danault is being scouted, I'm much more optimistic by that possibility than others mentioned.

I think it's far more likely Gourde ends up in Detroit especially with losing Copp for the season.

I don't want rentals. We have a unique opportunity to bring in some elite players with the cap skyrocketing for the next 3 or 4 years. And, there is a chance Marner is going to the highest bidder. So that is another hunk of change. We could go after Rants, Ehlers, B Schenn plus plus. There are big name players available this year.

I haven't even watched Gourde the past few years, and I know this will be a bad trade.
A highly physical, positionally versatile, 2x cup winner? He'll cost a 1st Round Pick plus more for 50% retention.
His numbers and usage look like a cup winner's 4C or a pretender's underwhelming 3C. But the Leafs have plenty of internal options for a luxury fourth line center. Would be a poor use of assets.

The only time of year teams and fans trip over themselves at the chance of getting amazing players like Schenn, Laughton and Gourde - all while paying 1st rd picks, and great prospects just for the pleasure!
Count me out as someone interested in any of these players - I hope the leafs trade for all three to save the Jets from themselves.
Note: if the Jets DO trade for one of these players I reserve the right to completely change my mind and whoever we sign will obviously be the best player ever.

Gourde and Laughton won't move the needle one bit for the Maple Leafs and would be a total waste of whatever assets it would cost to acquire them.
While Schenn would upgrade the roster, his age and term make this a very undesirable choice. If Brayden was a pending UFA I would understand, but I have no interest in him beyond this season.
While I agree the Leafs, ideally, should be seeking a third line centre with term, that player should not be 33 years old with 1000 games to his credit. Too old to be committing to beyond this year.

It's hilarious that you think an "All In" year would be acquiring 33-year old Brayden Schenn and 35-year old Luke Schenn!
I agree to a point that the term is a concern, although with the cap sky rocketing not as much.
But, and I've said this before If You Have a team that.
A is tied for 4th overall in the league.
B is leading the Atlantic with games in hand.
C has a goalie tandem that has been providing elite goaltending all year, last night aside and they still won.
The Leafs are all these things.
So if now is not the time to take go all in, TRULY all in when is it?

Last night aside? If not for goaltending the score would have been 5-0 after the 1st and ended in the third or overtime. The goaltending was steller

But even if he was I'd still take him.

I'm not commenting on if the Leafs should go for it or not, I'm saying Yanni Gourde and Scott Laughton do *nothing* to improve the Leafs weaknesses and Schenn, while I think he would be an upgrade, is too old to really matter and not someone I want on my team or on my cap until 2028.
He had his moments for sure but to me he looked like he was fighting the puck, there were rebounds he gave up that he usually doesn't.
But as I said in the post game thread that's fine he's done WAY more then his fair share.
The Leafs owe Stolarz that game and 15-20 more.

And what are the Leafs weaknesses? They need center help and ideally that center is someone who can provide depth scoring.

I think the Leafs weaknesses are a lack of secondary scoring, a defenseman that could be utilized as a legit shooting threat on the power play and size and toughness in the forward ranks that would make them more difficult to play against and a team that can physically wear down their opponents.
Laughton isn't even a centre, so I can't even understand why the would even bother. He also's not a legit scoring threat that's going to move the needle and he doesn't bring size or strength.
Gourde is under-sized, weak and his days as depth scorer have passed particularly when you factor in that in moving to the Leafs, he'd be dropping down to a bottom six situation with very little support scorers around him. I don't see the point in bothering with Gourde at this point.
I like what Brayden Schenn brings to the Maple Leafs. I think he could add that depth scoring, I think he would be a huge boost to the leadership group in Toronto, he would definitely upgrade the physicality of the forward group and I like his two-way game. He is clearly the best of these three options (in fact, he's the only choice, in my opinion as the other two don't move the needle at all) but I'm not really excited about the idea of Schenn until 2028. I've only seen him play a handful of games this year - so this is certainly not a qualified take - but I find his speed is definitely a notch down from where it was a few years ago and that definitely was a big part of what made him special both offensively and defensively so I'd be wary of acquiring him for his age 34, 35 and 36 seasons.
