Going through that old thread game me PTSD.

Those two posters plus some others that shall not be named turned this place into a toxic dump while Melnyk was still owner. In fact I still suspect some of them were related to or hired by Melnyk lol. All they did was go around blaming fans even as the org was falling apart and then they sort of vanished when he died.

Even Adrianopoulos can't even hold a candle to how awful those posters were.:D
100%. The best part was how people got put in time out or had priviledges taken away for calling them out. Nothing happened to the trolls though. Strange huh?

IP Address Lookup | Geolocation using my wan ip assigned by my ip, this sight shows your geo location according to several different ip location services and in my case I get some giving it as toronto and some giving it as my actual location.
Even If a server that is providing a service to an end user is remote (in Toronto using your example), there’s still typically a bunch of routers that are used to reach the final destination server including an edge router. I would think the edge router would be in close proximity to your actual physical/geographical location. Networks are subject to degradation if there’s too many hops/routers (more than 7 was a number that was floated years ago) and transient delays cause jitter problems, etc. I would think/guess that if a company wanted to figure out where a remote user is located, hence an edge router is located, they could. I was never deep into hands on IP networking and routing tables, but I did know some of basic principles involved.

phone gps vs wifi ip can provide different geolocations ; which may be pertinent

Using wifi via a router ; your router is assigned a public ip or wan ip address from your ip. In my case that wan ip address is in Toronto even though my physical location is not and it is in the Sens viewing area. So even though I am physically located where I should be able to watch without a hitch ..I get blacked out by Bell/TSN . My TV Provider shows me TSN5 and TSN5 Blackout as 2 channels. In my case TSN5 is blacked out and TSN5 Blackout is not. I can't explain it. I also have the NHL channels .. and never had a blackout there even though they do show TSN5 broadcast on Sens home games .

IP Address Lookup | Geolocation using my wan ip assigned by my ip, this sight shows your geo location according to several different ip location services and in my case I get some giving it as toronto and some giving it as my actual location. These services are sold and/or used by sites wanting to know geolocations. IP Address Location Incorrect describes how to get geo location databases corrected.

I am going to contact my IP provider to see if they can influence my geolocation to something recognized as my actual location. I went through where I last lived .. but they could not help ; still about half the time then is was blacked out and the other half it worked. No idea why.

No idea if Bell/TSN uses an API to one of these services/databases .. but there is a decent chance.

If I set my VPN location to Montreal , which is inside the Sens viewing area which is supposed to include all of Quebec it behaves exactly the same as I had mentioned in my earlier post
Interesting info and thoughts there SOA. You seem to be on the right track based on what I'd read. I just went through binding my VPN to my Torrent client and learning about DNS leaks that can occur on VPN's, so I wondered if it was something similar, but my knowledge on this and IT is limited.

So far, it is working on my phone on TSN Go for the game tonight with the location changer app, but for some reason the game listing is showing as starting an hour later than the game did start, and I had to select a Sportscenter listing, so we'll see in about 40 minutes, but so far so good on my phone at least.
Yeah this has been happening to me for ages.

It works on my Bell app from my phone, but not on my smart TV or my laptop. I just airplay it from my phone onto my TV so it’s really been only a minor inconvenience but it’s stupid. For me it never works on my tv and I’ve tried a bunch. Hope they get to the bottom of it.

I have a Sony Smart TV (Google software) and have never had a problem watching Senators games on either TSN nor Sportnet in Ottawa on Bell FIBE service.

When I travel to Guelph, Ontario and tried to access Senators games via TSN from a motel via the Internet, TSN will not provide the game to me. Bell says I can watch Senators games anytime anywhere as a subscriber. Not me!
That's so dumb for both of you. Fix your shit TSN. We all know they pay a lot for this contract, so you'd think they'd have a vested interest to fix this too and treat it with some urgency, but it sounds like loads of inquiries have fallen on deaf ears with their customer service that is surely complete ass like everyone else providing "customer service" these days.

It was incredibly irritating, but I also feel somewhat vindicated now, so at least I finally got the end result I wanted. A real NHL owner ready to do what it takes and hire actually competent management. It's been refreshing to enjoy this hobby more even if there's lots of work left.

Can someone tell me if I buy a TSN subscription and being located in BC that there are any restrictions? I bought the Amazon sportsnet package and most sens games are blocked. What do other cheap people do to watch sens games out west?

I find TSN 2, 3, and 4 get a lot of blackouts. 1 and 5 seem to generally get all the games they post.

I've been going through reddit threads that are littered with tons of people complaining about this. In the viewing region but for whatever reason, being blacked out by TSN. Often only on 1 of their devices like their smart TV, while it works fine everywhere else. Sometimes it'll work on that device for 1 game, then not the next, according to the claims.

Using a VPN didn't work for me at all and won't play anything on TSN Go, but I read that using a Location changer can work. I've set that up on my phone and will see if it works at game time! Fingers crossed.
This is my situation

In Ottawa. Streaming app works sometimes. Sometimes not.

I have an old TV that is connected to the house wifi using a bell streamer device. On this tv, the game is on a channel as opposed to an app and it always works.

So basically broken too. They really need to fix this. How is this an issue in 2024?

I found VPN's don't work, but the location changing GPS app makes it work on my phone and tablet. Unfortunately, the location app won't work on my Nvidia Shield, so I have to cast to my it or my TV from the phone or tablet. But then I'm not in the market and I'm not entitled to these in market games like you guys. I'd be pissed in that scenario.

You need to get the out of market package from Sportsnet, not TSN. TSN is for people in the Ottawa region unless you can trick TSN into thinking you're in the Ottawa region.

Seems like it’s only streams that are having issues, for those that live in Sens region, and subscribe to TSN5.

Apparently if you download the Bell Fibe APP, you can use your device anywhere in Canada and have access to exact Bell package you have at home….and cast/airplay to any smart TV.

in the USA, you can only access recorded programs with the Bell Fibe APP….

Start with this and work your way backwards, but be warned, you might lose faith in humanity

I'll never forget that wacky argument. It's the inspiration for my custom title.

Ya, I was in Ottawa hotel during this timeframe and the game was blacked out. I watched it on RDS and used the radio broadcast for play-by-play audio.

Things didn’t seem that complicated & seemed to work years ago. You knew what (two) channels the game was on and the games were generally carried from what I recall. Somehow these so called “advancements” have us moving backwards where we get less, pay more and can’t get any decent customer service.

For anyone with a tablet or smart phone with HDMI out capabilities (most Samsung's that aren't too old), it's been my solution, and may be one for people being blacked out when they shouldn't be, but have a TSN Go sub.

I bought an HDMI adapter for my Samsung tablet and smartphone to pass to my TV. Its got spare ports to be able to charge the tablet at the same time and hook up a little bluetooth with dongle spare mouse I had.

-Start location changer GPS spoof app and set it to Ottawa.

-Hook up HDMI cable to TV from Tablet/adapter.

-Start TSN Go app I have sub for.

I can only watch sens games if they are on Saturday. Otherwise need to use a VPN and pretend that I'm in Vancouver with my laptop. What a joke, pay $280 a year for SN+, have access to my friends Bell Fibe and still can barely watch any games without VPN or sailing the high seas.

You could watch them on any national night, Saturday being one. Wednesday as well.

Sounds like your issue is you don’t have TSN5 for in market games. That’s just how it works, SN has no control over that.
Sens in market games account for 2/3 of them.

Not saying I like in market vs out of market.

As I mentioned previously, it's also almost always blacked out on TSN.
