There was a caller to the morning show who was saying 'Toe Blake never spoke a word of French'. He wasn't corrected by either McKenna or Starr, maybe they didn't know but apparently Toe was fluent in French, one of the reasons he got job to be the Rocket's coach job in the 1950's. Toe's mother was French, Toe was short for Hector.

Knuckles just made what I thought was a good point. Teams that win in the playoffs have to beat teams with different styles. That may have done in Tampa last spring. Need to have the roster to adjust to the opponent.
Even Selke spoke some French. Back then it wasnt seen as some herculean task to learn a second language

In your head

It's hard to learn to speak French for a player in MTL. Mostly because players communicate in English in the locker room, at home they speak English and when they go outside, they speak English too, because the services are available in English. They don't have the opportunity to learn the language, unless they really put in some effort, they won't learn. At that age, the hassle is not worth it for them and they can be traded at every moment. They see no benefit in learning French, I don't blame them.

Here is an example of an Italian soccer player who learned French in two years, it was easier because in France if you don't speak French, you are f***ed.

This guy is Brazilian and he learned to communicate properly in French too.

IMO, if you put every Habs player in a city where they have no other choice than speak the native language, they will learn it in 3-4 years.

Molson has it made . The media never challenges MB and they laugh with him and give them access to keep them happy .

Habs make Money and stay mediocre and "parity" can be blamed and no one is angry and he watches money flow
The media never challenges MB !?!?

Have you seen Kovy mentioning that Bergevin did him a favor in trading him to WSH for a lesser offer?
The media was on him about it and there are 2 or 3 times where it was asked more directly and he just........ didn't know what to say, how to say it at first. He was caught and in MTL, you got to say it in both languages so, he's got to be careful out there. lol

I don't mind it. Kovy is most possibly a HHOF and Bergevin treated him with respect. Got something out of nothing with the Kovy experiment.
Last year presser or the year before, Bergevin was also pretty much out of words by the end, and was like " eh... ok.... " before answering and taking a deep breath beforehand. Kind of feeling like he's in trouble. I'm not saying Molson is helping, should hire a President to watch over the GM, if he is unsatisfied with the work. The $ rolls in so why change the recipe.. despite a few more empty seats...

Dude, they have 1 playoff series win in 6 seasons.
1 less than Islanders, Ottawa, Carolina, Minnesota ...
Same as Edmonton, Columbus, Calgary...
And 1 lousy po win is even better than Florida, Toronto, NJ, Detroit, Arizona, Buffalo, Vancouver, Philadelphia ...
Thats almost half the ligue right there.
Look around, there is life outside the Bell Centre.
Dude.

Jesus. It's bad. I can't even listen to Marinro do his advertising anymore. I can't stand the sound of his voice any longer. Why the hell is this guy on for 2-3 segments in a row. GET RID OF HIM.

I feel bad for Melnick. Last one on 690 with integrity and clout. What a rotten sh!t show Montreal has media has become. Let alone all the crappy bloggers that have voices and feel the need to over saturate opinion with regurgitated jargon.

Canadiens are becoming a polluted rotten whored-out brand.

It's not just Marinaro. 690 is littered with several no-talents like Sean Campbell, 5-questions-free-coffee Tsalikis and Noel Butler (still can't figure out what he's talking about). Melnick could have done a much better job than surrounding himself with Joey Alfieri, the blandest, common denominator ruffle-no-feathers sidekick and the perpetually smug Gallo.

What is particularly irksome is how Marinaro moves from a talking point to an advertising segment without prior notice.

Ted Tevan used to do that but he was so much more sophisticated, he actually made the ad segments worth listening to.

MB
Serge was gm at the time 16/21 teams made the playoffs. when he was fired there were up to 26 teams. And Quebec and Hartford were not powerhouses. Needed to beat one to get in.

When Adams became Northeast 1993-2013, Mtl won the division only twice. Buf 3 times. Ott 4. Problems started before MB.

4/5 teams made the playoffs in the Adams but 4/6 in the Patrick. Was beyond dumb.

Making the playoffs in this new system is way more difficult. I dont see how beating Bos, TB even Tor is probable with Florida coming on. And the Metro has 7 good teams so they might again get the wild cards. They did so 9/10 last 5 seasons.

For the record i believe MB should be fired.[/QUOTE...... Serge's only year missing playoffs was a strike shortened year........fact is he was only concerned bout winning the cup not just making playoffs.........he always had a competitive team......miss playoffs once and then idiot Corey had him on a short leash .......... Bergevin's teams lack serious talent and the organization is going absolutely nowhere.......8 years no accountability............ irrelevant franchise

I couldn’t believe that Flynn went on Marinaro’s show this morning without having read Mathias Brunet’s interview with Bergevin.

Marinaro ended up spending the interview feeding Flynn the main points from the article. They both went over Bergevin’s mistakes, something that we’re all too familiar with in here: Flynn: Bergevin learning from mistakes with Caufield

What is that I just heard on 690 -- an ad about the Limp Act where they're playing a goal call by Joey Als-fieri?

What is it with all of these soccer play by play amateurs emulating that long vocalized goal call by Andres Cantor.

Joey, this is not you. Give it up, dude. With your voice tailing off and fading badly at the end, you sound like a major putz.

This is how Cantor does it but instead of that, come up with something else. It's been done already.

Hysterics on the airwaves this morning. This radio announcer should try to separate his emotions from his on-airdiscussion about the Habs, or take a few days off to rethink his personal issues.

What "announcer" and what are the personal issues?

This shouldn't mater to Habs fans at all. "It's ok if our favourite team is bad because look at how many other teams are bad." That's a shitty outlook. Fans should have higher standards. Bergevin and Molson have done such a good job at lowering expectations and making the masses ok with mediocrity. Such a shame.

Standards have been lowered significantly during Bergevin's tenure. His apologists keep moving goalposts comparing the once glorious Montreal Canadiens with the bottom of the barrel. Missing the playoffs 3 years straight is not acceptable and lowering the bar isn't acceptable either.

Learn from Bergevin himself :laugh: . Whenever he's asked about certain things he keeps using the bottom teams in that argument as a comparison instead of the top teams lolol

The Montreal media have no relationship with the Montreal Canadiens . That is a fact .
The Montreal media make up stories in their heads and spin it as truth .That's a fact .
No one in the Montreal media know more about the game than Mantreal Canadien management . That's a fact .
Montreal media overrate themselves and need to realize how irrelevant they truly are .
