TSN 690 and Other Montreal Based Media (Part 10)

On the 690 post-game show, they were saying Demidov is the most hyped Habs prospect since Guy Lafleur.

Couple of thoughts, when did social media become huge, mid 1990's? Anyway, the hype for Doug Wickenheiser was huge and it buried him. Guy Lafleur used to say he was only expected to replace Jean Beliveau when he joined the Habs. It took him years to find his way in the NHL and he was surrounded by Hall of Famers. Was part of a Cup team his second season. Wick was only expected to take the flambeau from #10 and the Habs were in decline by the time he joined the team. It was too much for him.

I just hope that Demidov is allowed to progress at his pace, whatever that is, and he isn't buried by the hype that Wick had. He'll have a lot of adjustments to make not just new team, new league. Off ice, travel, culture. Hope for the kid's sake he's given the space by all to learn & develop

I think one difference is Jean directly followed the Rocket. Lafleur directly followed Jean. And Wickenhiser directly followed Lafleur. (Even if there's some overlap)

Let's just take Lafleur from when he last played on the habs. That's over 40 years ago. I don't think the pressure is as great personally because we are so far removed from Habs greatness whereas each player had to live up to the previous era.

The only player in the last 20 years that had that kind of pressure was probably Carey Price to full the shoes of Patrick Roy. As for demidov, the pressure will still be huge but that's part and parcel with being on the habs

It's true that the expectation to win is not the same now. Late 1950's to early 1980's it was Cup or bust. Making the playoffs was a given not a goal.

The Habs making the playoffs this year, will create team expectations going forward. I could see this division being very competitive the next few years. I just hope the kid is allowed to be a kid while he's figuring out his place on the team and in the league. Will help his development if the Habs continue to improve the roster.

Sean Campbell was getting roasted by a guy that kept texting it and said they don't stick with Montreal content
I laughed because Campbell lost it and said he's not answering to no public blah blah blah

Campbell always sounds like he’s trying too hard. He loves to name and place drop, thinks he’s attained the status of a celebrity. I don’t know how the annoyance of a show he has going with Gallo ever got on air but it does say something about how low 690 continues to sink. 💀

Could be worse, you could be listening to Tony call gas stations right now asking them if they can help the Habs because they are out of gas. I feel embarrassed for him. He does this shit all the time.
I like Tony and his shows but some of his schtick especially things like this is embracing, not interesting or funny.

A few weeks back when Canada beat the USA, he started calling bars in Boston and ask how come USA can't beat Canada, it was cringe. HE should stick to what works and leave the phone pranks to Bart Simpson or the Jerky boys lol

If he was good at doing shtick I wouldn't even mind, but he's awful at it. He can't even troll right.

epitome of amateur hour, Jon still proudly announces on air a scoop that Mavs GM Nico Harrison was fired...it's not anywhere on the web...
I find it on X from a fake NBA insider account - messaged him he was played...wondering if he'll now walk it back.
any donkey could've verified the false info

Whoa, whoa. Let's not be too harsh on them.

They are running a music/butchery/restaurant review/"just chatting stream" lifestyle show. You can't expect them to be experts on sports.

Crazy to think Tony was/is the smartest guy who's worked at 690. Probably makes 2-3x online/with french media than he ever did with Bell. Good for him

Did he really? Wow that's bad. Makes you think about how little work he does.

Dude was so mad he lost his hockey pool the other day.

Why do some people think somebody gives a damn about their fantasy hockey team.

Anyways, he looked he smashed some chairs against the wall before coming on air.

I was going to attend but finally bailed as I’ve been under the weather all day. Would have been fun to be there:
