TSN 690 and Other Montreal Based Media (Part 10)

where's Melnick? does the guy ever work anymore? is he sick again? he just came back from visiting his daughter in Toronto.
It's a running f***ing gag that he's collecting 6 figures to mail it in. They should just use his salary to find a younger, hungrier host
That station’s idea of young talent is milquetoasts like Campbell and Gallo, people with monotone delivery, childish banter, dumb trivia, cringe name-dropping, who fill most of their air time by reading the internet back to you out loud.

Talents from other generations did not immediately transition from the production booth to on air within 6 months — they had to hone their skills and make their mistakes at smaller, more remote radio stations, which could take years. However, when they’d made it to a big city radio station, they knew how to command attention and how to ad lib. Sadly, a lost art.

Lol Simon is actually a really nice guy. I run into him frequently at a coffee shop in NDG after his starters show
He could be nice but he comes across as a simpleton who can’t properly enunciate. He has these quirky pronunciations, which give him away. Why is he always doing station identifications as « ah-TSN690 »? Why is there an « ah » in there »?

His commercials are poorly conceived. He can’t pronounce the names of the cities he works in. What’s with « Levalle »? He wants us to call him first but there is nothing he does that is different from any other real estate agent out there other than him getting reduced rates on airing commercials that sound big time amateurish.

Man, that station really knows how to annoy. There is Starr who delivers commercials in a weird American accent, McKenna who is whiny and insufferable, Melnick’s obsession with Dylan, this Luca Scott character who sounds like a Neanderthal and John Still who likes to hear himself pontificate — often feels like he’s trying too hard.

Only thing I enjoy are their afternoon guests. That Aaron Ward guy is one hell of a storyteller, has a great radio voice and delivery. Some bigger network should snap him up — he’s got the gift of gab and knows how to use it.

Only reason I didn’t mention Gallo and Campbell is that I had freshly bashed them in a prior post. They are big time insufferable.

Haven't listened in a while. Honestly since Marinaro and Nilan left. Marinaro was at least entertaining and Nilan could grab great guests in the afternoon.

I cant listen now because of campbell and Gallo. They aren't host material.

I like Bennett and was kinda glad she came back but Melnick is bad now and the show lost something.

PJ Stock is still around? 😆

I think it's a Schtick. He's been pretty consistent since his days on cbc in being very begrudging to give the Habs any credit at all.

He has said some pretty outlandish stuff, and this one ranks high too. One of my favourite things about nick is the way he elevates on the big stage.

He's played 6 playoff rounds and anyone who watched those games should be able to tell you that he was pretty darn good in them.

Against my better judgement I opened TSN 690 last night during the Habs game as I had to run to the store for my wife who is battling the the flu.

My God who is that awful play by play duo they have?
We are a long long LONG way away from Dan Robertson and Sergio Momesso.

If that wasn’t enough i turned it on today in the afternoon. Melnick wasn’t in, for once a good reason, congratulations to him and his daughter on the birth of her child… but Jon Still is still horrendous … guess he spends too much time with Gallo and Campbell.

I last 5 minutes, back to BPM Sports… I’ll stay there

Tony has those bpm clowns on his pod, not insiders , outsiders , clueless morons.
Tony knows who’s buttering his toasts — it’s all business.

He’s never had as big a salary with 690 as he does now with BPM. Often mentions during his BPM morning show the ridiculously low wages he was making before.

I’m not a fan but do respect how he’s put in the work in what is a very tough business to crack.

He’s probably clearing over $100 K now between BPM and all the podcasts and appearances he does as a « celebrity ». :sarcasm:

funny on fat tony's show
he is reminding big button nose that he said "forget the habs making the playoffs"

not in yet, but button is a clown
His schtick about talking about food all the time is getting f***ing tiresome. On JiC yesterday they spent at least 4 or 5 minutes on stupid pastries. Like f*** off it's a sports show.
