I'm fine with your version as well. Tried to build based on your options in the opening post. If max retention helps Edmonton somehow it shouldn't be a biggie since Buffalo is at the floor.

Karlsson at 5.75 (50%) is going to cost much more than Bouchard. Not a knock on Bouchard, but getting a guy who seems to be back in the elite status for that at 5 years while taking a retention slot for 5 years is going to cost a good bit.

I did a break down of this in another thread. Karlsson isn't worth a whole lot as he is a injured prone player with a high cap hit. Karlsson with 43% retain brings his cap hit down to just over 6.5M and with his contract real dollars starting to decline it works out to retaining $16,770,000.00 of real money and that will cost 2 or 3 high end assets. The retention will cost more then Karlsson himself.

I also think Edmonton team D would need to be totally over hauled to add Karlsson. Barrie would need to go. Edmonton would need to add a Gavrikov type

Karlsson just isn't a great fit with Barrie and Bouchard as they are also weak defensively. Nurse could be added in here as well.

mediocrities.

They’ve paired him (Provorov) with absolute stiffs his entire career, which has hindered his development. A change of scenery with a decent defense partner would do wonders.

No, Guhle for Bourgault isn't fair value...but in my eyes it is a LOT closer than Bourgault for Edmundson.

Bourgault and a 1st for Guhle would still be a more balanced offer than Edmundson for Bourgault. That's got Forsberg for Erat Redux written all over it.
