I am impressed. This is how you rank them, not a prediction of where they'll be drafted, yes|?
I am soooo looking forward to the 217 write-ups!
Some people have ranked this draft as a mediocre one, and that kind of boggled me. Lots of depth in my opinion. Past the top ten, it is quite a crapshoot to try and figure where and when guys will go.
As for your own first ten, no arguments here, but check out the number of D in the top ten - 50%. As a matter of fact, you have 18 D in the first 40, which tells us just how strong the D core are, OR how weak the forward class (Center, really) is by comparison.

Depends if teams want a center, then, for guys in the low 30s (Olaffson, Dellandrea, McBain) to break into first round.
I think Foudy is misplaced - I'd put him in the 30s.
You think Brady Tkachuk will fall?

Yeah, it’s mostly a combination of rankings and predictions. In my final write up, I will go a little more drastically towards players I think are going to be better in the long run. I’ll have a mock draft to predict where I think they’ll go. They’ll both come out in June.

Foudy is a great player, I’ve been calling on him to leap the entire year. He could be somewhere around mid 30’s, but I think teams will try to go BPA and he’ll go somewhere around mid 2nd.

I’ve voiced myself as a well known Tkachuk “hater”. I think he’s a gritty two way winger at best, and in this draft, that’s somewhere around 9-11 range.

Nice work. Would a team like the Leafs with one pick in the 20s be better off staying put, or would moving down to grab 2 2nds be worth it? What is the 2nd round depth like? Thanks.

Honestly, it depends on who’s left or dropped down to 20. If it’s someone like Denisenko or Kupari, I would pick. If most of the top group is gone, it would make good sense to move back. The depth is quite good, especially if you wanted a center, there will be lots around in the early 2nd.

Switch Kupari with Noel and that's a great list. Glad that you're a Hughes fan as much as I am!
Thanks.
In my personal opinion, Kupari has a high future potential despite not having the most amazing year this year, his offensive skill is high.

Noel has improved his skating this year, but the two things that scared about him are his shot generation (he only had like 100 shots this year) and his consistency. Some nights he’ll just disappear and won’t show up. For that reason I have him at the end of the 1st. Skill and size wise, he’s a mid 1st for sure.

I have no idea where other people are ranking Semyon Der-Arguchintsev but I think his playmaking skills would be welcomed in the Dallas system. Especially if he's around in the 3rd round.

From 15-30 I think that there are so many incomplete players that a lot of them will bust.

It's an interesting list. I don't want to sound like a dick, but here's some questions.

Budy around 150? He's a lot more talented than some of the guys ahead of him. Bahl>Ginning, he's outplaying Ginning at every tournament I saw them together. Ginning struggles making talented plays with the puck while Bahl looks much more natural. Riley Sutter is a higher level prospect than a lot of guys ahead of him, some are, MacDonald, Hillis, Hall and Topping.

Adam Samuelsson shouldn't be drafted in the first 5 rounds, he can't handle the puck. NHL is all about making good plays with the puck and pushing the pace, guys like Chisholm, Vallati, Regula and Bernard are much better.

Olofsson is much better than Kupari, he can make plays Kupari can't, with more size.

Bouchard is the second best D in the draft. Riley Stotts was superb in Calgary after being stuck in the bottom of SC's line-up. Struthers at 208, is just really wrong.

Budy is great, he’s a little slept on, so he’s lower on the list.

Bahl is good, however his offense is very limited and he’s easily blown by from fast skaters. Ginning struggles making talented plays but is more rounded.

Not sure what you mean by Riley Sutter being a higher level guy over guys listed, he’s a power forward who doesn’t have too much skill, tops out as a top9/bottom six forward for me.

Samuelsson is learning to handle the puck, and slowly getting better, needs to work on his discipline but is a good player with a good toolbox.

Kupari had a down year, he’ll bounce back next year. His offensive potential vastly surpasses that of Olofsson, and his defense isn’t that bad either.

Bouchard as the 2nd best defenseman is a very bold statement, he certainly doesn’t have the 2nd highest potential.. Haven’t watched Struthers for 4 months, it’s almost impossible to keep up with 300 players as you could imagine.

Great, great list. I'll second the opinion that Jake Wise won't go further than the very early second, surely not later than the Habs' picks.

How is Ginning more rounded? Is he better defensively, he might skater better north-south, but agility, backwards skating, edges, is much more important for a defenceman which Bahl is superior in. Bahl is much better than Ginning at transitioning the puck with passes, shutting down forwards, and jumping in the rush. Ginning skates better with the puck, that's it.

Riley Sutter might not hand the flashy highlights, but he reminds me of DeBrusk in some ways. He's always around the net when he scores goals, tips the shot or he's "somehow" in that perfect position where the puck lands on his stick after a rebound. Talented players have that ability to get the puck on their stick at the perfect time. Sutter has great hand-eye, tips a lot of shots, he's 6'2 and 200 pounds so he's tough to knock off the puck or push out of the crease. He has more goals than Fonstad, Damiani, Jenkins, Hain, Hillis, Foudy, Eriksson, McLaughin, Drury.

Samuelsson learning to handle the puck doesn't sound convincing. I'd rather draft someone who can handle the puck already and is at another stage in their development. Samuelsson learning to handle the puck was acceptable, maybe when he was 12 years old.

If Kupari had a down year, then so did Olofsson. Olofsson outproduced him at the U17s and U18s a year ago, this year Kupari made the U20 team and won the gold medal at the U18s. Olofsson has been better in his league play, his numbers are up there with guys like Forsberg, Bratt, Burakovsky, and Dahlen. Olofsson has a huge frame and great hockey IQ to go with it, Kupari clearly does not have high level hockey sense or a big frame. I'm taking Olofsson who has dropped this year, for no reason, he's the best forward from Sweden easily.

I just think Bouchard can bring so much offensively, but way more defensively than Hughes and Boqvist. He's engaged defensively, uses his body and doesn't puck watch or cheat out of the zone like the other 2 guys. He can still QB a PP though and his shot is better than Hughes. He can thread needles as good as these guys. He still offers more to the table, he can't skate as good as them, but his skating is overblown and it is clearly not a concern when you watch him play.

Not going to spampost and fill up the page, but I disagree on a few things here. If you’re still around late June when my full rankings come out with writeups, they’ll have details descriptions with my notes on each player and why I chose them where I did. These rankings also focus on where teams could select the players.

Also, Olofsson has been playing in the 2nd tier of Swedish hockey on the most stacked team, Kupari is playing in the top tier in the Liiga, and Kupari only has a few less points. His offensive potential is sky high.

Great work, don't know how you can rank 300! That's a lot.

Some questions about some later rankings.
  • Bit curious as to why Back is higher than Gustafsson. I see Gust as a Lundestrom level player, very similar in their playing style, maybe even better statistically when you consider, Lundestrom plays nearly 5 min more per game. Lundestrom is only 40% on draws, Gust is 50%, both with over 400 draws, so its not a small sample. Younger as well. Then vs Back: comparing on ice performance, i feel Back just doesn't standout much at all offensively, Gust drives the net a lot more. Both equal and strong defensively. Gust's small sample at J20 shows he can produce there at a higher rate than Back. I also thought Gust handedly outplayed Back at the U18s.
  • Weiss behind Hain and Pivonka? I am not sure about that for me. Weiss displays more offensive acumen than both those guys combined. I can see Weiss being the Troy Terry of the NTDP/of this draft; under-rated, but should have a good college career. BTW, you have two Weiss' on your list: 92+117 (Unless there is another one i'm not aware of ).
