lol unless Seravalli has heard that from Matthews/his agent, that quote doesnt mean anything.

another early playoff exit next year and buckle the F up

Frank Seravalli is probably a little more plugged into the game than a sour reporter out of Calgary...

Remember when everyone was worried Phil Kessel would walk as a UFA having gone through so many lean years in Toronto?

Everyone here needs to take a page out of Masai Ujiri's book. Have some pride in Toronto.

Comparing us to the likes of Calgary and Winnipeg is honestly an insult. Those are okay cities but especially with Calgary the main appeal of cities out west like the mountains and national parks which are outside the city. As cities go they don't offer much for the ultra wealthy. Toronto does.

I've lived abroad and in multiple Canadian provinces and if anything, Torontonians are far too humble and reserved about how great the city is. A typical day for me I get off work, bike to the beach chill for a few hours, head to my favourite gym to some some Jiu jitsu with Canada's best grapplers, find a patio and get some great food and then head home, stop by the library to pick up some books, go to a coffee shop to read a bit and enjoy some exotic coffee and then go to bed. That's the type lifestyle you won't find in other Canadian cities. Yeah I can't ski in the rockies or camp in a national park with a view of the Pacific ocean but the trade off is my everyday lifestyle is far healthier.
You must get off work early

One question towards Dubas haters, if keeping Shanahan / Dubas means that we can surely keep Matthews could you eat the pain and frustration?

There is interesting times coming next summer if Shanny / Dubas has Matthews contract negotiated before hand and then we change regime. Will Matthews sign in turbulence or will he look elsewhere.

To me: keeping Matthews > changing GM in near future.
Only if keeping Matthews means that we have team success If keeping all 3 means continued first round failure I would look at moving all 3.

If I had the choice to move my job to the US I would in a heartbeat. Politics has gotten so it of hand you simply can't ignore it. Canada is a mess right now sadly :(
As a Canadian living in the US (since Jan 2021), my experience has been that the politicization is much worse in the US than it is in Canada. At least on the west coast. Every time I go up to Vancouver it feels like I'm around normal people again.

It is sad to see how political everything has gotten at home though. Hoping for some mending and unity over the next few years.

I myself am moving to Texas. Maybe one day I'll come home like JT. For 11milly a year, I'd sign the contract.

Both Seravalli and Chris Johnston strongly think he'll stay. Still can't sign him until next year, so his mind may change, but considering how connected those two are, I think at the very least, Matthews wants to stick around currently.

Also, we really need to stop with the insecurity. No disrespect to the likes of Calgary and Winnipeg, but Toronto is the biggest hockey market on the planet. For someone who loves the spotlight and endorsements, Toronto is a great fit. Being able to offer 8 years and load up on signing bonuses also really helps.

Either way far too early to start worrying right now. He's not even eligible for an extension right now

If he signs again, probably not an 8 year deal. More like 5 again like last contract.

Between the hot weather, American politics, greater disparity between rich and poor, and "strangely conservative and getting worse" attitudes, I wouldn't live in the USA if I was a trillionaire, especially Florida or Texas. Also wouldn't want my family to live there. Especially if I was born Canadian. If I was born American, I might be used to it. Also, I don't think it's fair that 2 teams that have to abide by the same league cap are affected by income tax the same way. The league and the players could alter the CBA so that an income adjustment is performed on player wages and team caps to create a more level playing field.
