Trouble at NTDP?

Whats he gonna say? "No were not going to Notre Dame now." Of course their not changing their commitment right now. That would be stupid. Im sure the advisor told them not to say anything different.

The Fowlers said the same thing for the last year.

He may end up going to Notre Dame, but my money is on Palmieri ending up in the OHL.

Fowler always said he was going to look at his options, he also never asked for his release for NTDP. Yep the NTDP probably isn't happy with him spurning ND but he went about things in a mature manner.

wait... driving was involved too?

I'm suddenly not as careless about this situation as I was. I know a number of college students that have been injured (and 2 that have died) due to drunk driving. It is a biggy.

Yes it's not very responsible, what's sad is that these guys want to drink a cooler like Mikes Hard Lemonade? Another life lesson has to be learned from this.

No, I think its purely internet rumor, and "worst case scenario."

.....but he probably should have made last years WJC team anyway, and he would already be locked into USA.

I agree.....for kids this age the WJHC is a major goal for them.
If they feel that keeping your nose clean, loyalty and talent isn't what it takes to make the team but "politics" of USA Hockey does......then and only then they would or should switch.

If a kid's getting jobbed by TPTB at USA Hockey, then yeah I agree it's time for a change. That being said, let's not label some of these kids doe-eyed innocents.

Tons of guys playing in the CHL are also going to university at the same time. Its not like they all stop going to school after high school.

It's no small feat to shoulder a university-level course load when you have to contend with the frequent travel demands and constant practice schedule of an OHL player.

Combine that with playing for a team like 2007-2008 Greyhounds that have a legitimate shot at the OHL championship and you have a recipe for a balancing act that would challenge any tightrope artist.

But this year, ten Greyhound players are working hard both on the ice and in the classroom at Algoma University College.

So if Crosby decided he didn't want to be a Penguin, they should just let him go?

So if Tavares decided he didn't want to be a Knight, they should just let him go?

So if Maxwell decides he doesn't want to play for the NTDP, they should just let him go?

Sorry, I don't see the difference.

Surely you're aware of the numerous examples of NHL players who have demanded trades and then been moved? Tanguay still had a year left on his deal with Calgary but asked to be moved and was later moved to Montreal by Sutter. Lindros refused to go to Quebec wasn't it?

This kind of stuff happens.

Rumor: Kyle Palmeiri kicked out US program

Well, I just heard about this from a friend from high school so take this with a grain of salt. Kyle Palmeiri's dad, Bruce, used to coach our high school hockey team so some of the guys from the old team try to keep in touch and have taken an interest in Kyle. I just heard from one of the guys that Kyle had been kicked out of the program for inappropriate behavior at the hotels. He said he had girls up in his room, I'm just assuming there might've been alcohol involved as well but thats just me assuming cause I've been on road trips and know what goes on in the hotels. He also said it was his second offense.

My question is if this is true, how does it affect his draft status, if at all? I know alot of gm's put high value on character so does this drop him into the 2nd? I'm interested to see what everyone thinks.

Also, if anyone can back up this story, I'd appreciate it. I'm just going on with what I heard from a friend so it could be completely off-base. He also said that his scholarship to ND had not been revoked so he'll be attending there regardless of where he's drafted.

that is a community college.

The most common route for CHL players is to play out their CHL years and then take the scholarship to go to a real university. I know a bunch of students and grad students (who happen to be my TA's) at McGill who used to play in the Q.

i have heard rumors about palmeri being out as well, but i cant remember where from, so dont consider this confirmation at all.

I dont think this is the type of character issue that NHL gm's will look at. For kids his age (slightly younger than my age) drinking + girls is very common. If he was on a CHL team, this wouldnt even be an issue, but because of Pejorative Slured american laws...

Bottom line, i dont expect his draft position to be that effected by this. The only thing is that if he is out of the program, it limits scouts' abilities to see him for the rest of the year.

I think you hit the nail right on the head there. While I'm not sure his actions in the hotel will directly hurt his draft stock, they could very well indirectly hurt it. By being booted out of the program, he won't be heading to the Under 18's (at least you'd think), and that tournament is an incredibly important one for draft eligible players to show what they are made of.

Western,

You meant that as a joke, right? CB went to "0" classes at BU. Idk what Ryan is up to with his education. It looks like their sister will be the only college grad in the Bourque family.

I am always amazed of the salivating by CHL clubs over NTDP, USHL... players in order for them to join their clubs. It seems to be a real victory when the CHL recruits a player from one of these leagues or programs. I guess if you are inept at developing your own, you need to get talent from somewhere else. Interesting how the CHL clubs require NTDP, USHL players to provide talent and sell tickets.

you're right, because the majority of high end CHL players come from the NTDP and the USHL:sarcasm:

its just a celebration because CHL teams draft these talented players and getting them to show up is a victory. Same thing as colleges getting commitments from players they recruit, its a good thing for the program. If you think CHL teams don't develop talent there isn't much anyone can say to help you.

You hit the nail on the head. How many first round picks has the CHL churned out anyways, probably 0 eh.

What a terrible league!

Part of me was hoping they'd add Palmieri back to the roster for this. He may have made some big mistakes but this is a very heavy price to pay. Maybe there's more to it than was reported here.

Samuelsson is interesting. He played with the US at the Five Nations U18 back in February after having said he'd play for Sweden. USA Hockey must have pushed hard for him. From what I've read, his brother who's a '94 is something special so maybe they're looking to the future.
