Trouba's NMC remains in effect,
he contractually arranged for it to expire only once wife's residency is completed,
That was anticipated to be 2024 (now) however that won't be til next spring
Not surprised external sites like CF were out of the loop,
but NYR FO dropped the ball here, not keeping track of the commitments they'd agreed to

It contractually expired July 1.

The fact that his wife's residency got changed, delayed or whatever doesn't change the contract.

He now has only a 15 team NTC. Not a NMC.

Doesn't matter because he's scared of any team to trade for him by leaking he won't report.

Because the Rangers can make life difficult for him quite easily.

How exactly?

By trading him or waiving him? Still need another team that's willing to go along with it.

I guess they would send him to Hartford, but that hurts the Rangers as well as less than $1M in salary comes off the cap for the Rangers and they'd still need to find (and pay) a replacement for Trouba.

If he actually cares about his family he isn't going to sacrifice $16 million over the next two years by breaching his contract. He will report. Just like Marc-Andre Fleury reported after threatening retirement if Las Vegas traded him. It's a bluff. Most GM's see through it.

The question more GM's will have is why the New York Rangers want to dump their captain after a conference final so much.

Put him on waivers for Anaheim to claim, when he fails to report they terminate his contract, take the cap hit but don't have to pay him.

Fairly sure they don't get to just keep the cap hit and what if he calls their bluff and does report?

I doubt Trouba just walks away from $12M in salary and that would be a big (and unnecessary) risk for Anaheim to take.

They don't need Trouba's cap hit to reach the floor and are better off using that space to get paid by teams to take on bad contracts.

That doesn't at all back what you wrote.

He designed his contract so that the NMC would switch to a NTC at the same time his wife's residency was supposed to be completed, but COVID apparently screwed that up and caused his wife's residency completion to be pushed back a year. Teams are likely to wait until next offseason, as Trouba would presumably be fine with moving on elsewhere at that point as his wife and child would be able to go with him.

Staple confirmed that he has submitted his 15 team no trade list for this season.

Whatever you think of him as a player (or even a person), the Rangers are trying to do Touba dirty. They're trying to force him out, he's holding them to the contract conditions they signed him to. He has every right, especially when the organization is trying all sorts of underhanded tactics.

This makes the Rangers FO and Drury himself look pretty awful, to be honest.

How are they trying to do him dirty? Because they want to trade him?

Trouba has every right to stick hard and fast to the rules of the CBA and his contract, but the Rangers don't?

He can make life difficult for the Rangers, and vice versa.

Block a trade by working the no-trade list and threatening to not report? Sure. It's allowed.

Demote or waive the player? Ditto. Not against the rules.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

PS. I think Trouba ends up in Detroit.

If he's that worried about being traded he could just agree to mutual termination of his contract and sign cheap for 1 year with Devs or Isles and then start fresh with more freedom to go where he wants. Better than the Rangers having to pay an asset to move him, and another team needing to worry about that salary.

If Trouba is for sure getting traded, then Nashville should be all in on him. Even more so when you consider Nashville is going all in next season.

Josi - Trouba top pair would be a cup contending top pairing.

What would the Rangers want from Nashville?

How that is not clear to everyone ? Cap space to operate is pretty crucial to every contender.
This isn’t exactly about cap space, they have enough to take care of remaining business. They don’t like his contract anymore and had wanted to replace his cap hit with someone else. They were hoping he’d make this process easy for them and he’s not obligated to do that.

Choo choo.

The Rangers can still trade him to the teams that aren't on his 15 Team No Trade list, he would have to report regardless of whatever promises he felt they made about his wife's career. If you want to talk about honoring the contract for his NMC, well, then he has to do the same since he gives 15 teams he wouldn't play for. Sure he could add the ones that want him to make it harder, but that still leaves 17 teams the Rangers can work out a deal with.

If he wants to stay close to New York, then maybe don't put Buffalo, New Jersey, and Islanders on that list. Because if he left Anaheim off that list, lol, he'll be on the West coast and if he refuses to report, that's a suspension without pay.

How difficult would it be for Dr. Tyson-Trouba to become a doctor in Canada with her medical degree from the US?

If it was Trouba the player and contract I'd want him.

But as a person I don't want him in Calgary.

It should be the opposite. Jacob Trouba the person is a good human being. Jacob Trouba the player and contract are albatrosses.

He submits a list of 15, he can't change that list until the next summer. So if there's a team on the 17 left off of it that he can be traded to, then the Rangers are sticking to the CBA and the rules of his contract and then it's all on Trouba to show up or not.

Like it's been stated, Rangers signed that contract with Trouba, well so did Trouba with choosing the clause, which leaves 17 teams available. Once July 1st hit, he already submitted his list.
