Value of: Trouba

A pick and a higher end prospect setting up Jets fans for disappointment? Lol. Yeah. Take a look at what a playoff rental goes for if you want to play the "he is a rental" card. A pick and a legit prospect is hardly a haul.

The meltdown Jets fans are setting themselves up for when they don't get the king's ransom they're expecting is gonna be epic.

Considering a significant chunk of us are very happy losing him for free next year.......I'm not so sure you are right. Free........is zero. I haven't seen anyone suggest they expect a "Kings randsom" and I mod both the trades board & the Jets board (while I don't read every single post on Trouba I've read a lot more then most). Of course I've never seen any fan base completely agree on anything, especially trades. If he is traded, regardless for what you will see some disappointed and others happy and others neutral. How you define a "kings randsom" might be influencing your opinion. All you/others need to look at to consider a roughly realistic return is look at recent non outlier returns for guys (compare their value vs a top pairing 25 yr old RHD) at the TDL and add for the roughly 60+ extra games. That forms all basic offers, anything below that is a lowball unrealistic offer and anything above that is a possible realistic offer depending on fit, need and personal choice. Then what's harder to factor in or speak to confidently is the possible bidding war and "possible" trade/sign options.

But if you want to look at the least amount of return for Trouba look at similar non outlier trades done at the TDL, add to that for the 60+ extra games and add for the differences in position (top pairing 25yr old RHD vs winger as example). This is the min that people should be offering, anything less then that is a lowball offer.

Personally I've seen in this thread a few good offers, bunch of base line/possible offers (depending on personal choice/opinion of players/prospects/fit) and a bunch of low ball offers. Mixed bag throughout this thread. We will all know in fours weeks or less.

People out here really not knowing about the Trouba situation, huh.

The sitch is that he wants to either be closer to home and his family or in a position more favorable for his girlfriend, ideally in a position that works for both. Places like Detroit, either of the 3 New York area teams or the Floridian teams are the prime targets for him and are thus easier to make a trade with.

The Jets have no reason to trade him for below what they want, as either way he is more than likely not on the team, so they would be making preparations ahead of this occurrence. They want either a good young defenseman/forward and some smaller stuff or a deal centered around a 1st round pick and a soon to go to the NHL prospect, ideally a center or another defenseman. The Jets also have a big summer ahead of them which could see a lot of big names sent out and big names brought in.

Detroit is looking at some combination of Hronek/Mantha/Bertuzzi/Veleno/Cholowski/1st through 3rd for Trouba

New Jersey would be looking at Severson+
NYI is looking at Pulock/Dobson/Aho/Beauviller/picks
NYR is looking at raw picks as they have nothing they'd want to reasonably give up or that the Jets would want. If the Rangers decide it's time to complete their 2020 1st immediately becomes the main piece.

Florida would almost 100% have to be Borgstrom+ or a big deal with Trocheck involved (which, btw, I have heard rumors of)

Tampa would also be one of the hardest but I can see a world where the Jets take on a bit of cap for Sergachev and something else

If a team isn't going to ante up for a mid 20's top pair right shot defenseman then don't bother to trade for him at all.

I can’t remember many rentals fetching a Grade-A prospect + 1st pick...do you have some examples in mind?

I will step my claim back ( a bit) and re-word.

I think if Trouba were to be traded at the deadline (as a pending UFA) he would return a top prospect (not top 10 in the league but a sure fire NHLer which I called an A prospect) and a 1st and a conditional pick if he resigns. Look at Zuccarello - essentially 2 1st round picks for a 31 year old winger. I am confident Trouba is worth a lot more than Zuccarello. Also, I was responding to the comparison to Mark Stone - Brannstrom (an A grade prospect) and a 2nd - and the comment Trouba would return a bit more. So I thought a 1st instead of a second was probable.

Trading him at the draft - with 1 year remaining on his contract - opens up the possibility of non playoff teams bidding for him. I have stated earlier in this thread that I think the Paccioretty deal is a starting point for value - an A prospect (Suzuki), a decent 2/3rd liner and a 2nd round pick. Obviously, a top pairing 25 year old RHD coming off his best season should garner more interest and value than a 30+ year old winger coming off one of his worst seasons.

For a recent trade comparison look to Montour to Buffalo for Guhle and a 1st. I think Trouba is more valuable than Montour (of course there is a contract difference).

That said, I am prepared to be underwhelmed by the return.

Make sense.

Would you consider the following package as underwhelming?

11 OA + Gudas + Rubstov

No. That is along the lines of what I expect the return to be. 11th is a good value pick. Gudas fits in the top 6 D and Rubstov has potential I guess (though I can't say I know much about him other than draft position).

Obviously I hope for a higher regarded prospect.

Hayes went for a 1st and a B prospect/young player as a rental at the deadline. Trouba is a much better player than Hayes, and a 1D is more important than a 2C. The Jets will do fine.

You're not sure which sport you're commenting on if you don't realize you're embarrassing yourself by trying to force a comparison between the two.
Actually, I am sure McDonagh is the better player. But go right ahead and go all in on on over hyped Trouba.

Trouba: 1.07 (0.54 pts/game overall)

Anyone thinking the Jets will let him go for less than what a comparable replacement would cost at the deadline is delusional. Why would anyone trade away a player they will need to replace with a rental later on for less then the cost of that rental? If there isn’t a significant premium over what an equivalent rental would cost he’ll be back with the Jets next year even if he is a UFA afterwards.

Even if you assume the Jets can get away with someone who isn't quite as good as Trouba, and go out and get a top pair RHD instead of a full on #1 RHD the cost of replacing Trouba with a deadline rental would be huge. You can rest assured that if Trouba is traded he'll return far more than the lowball offers fans of other teams think are "fair because the Jets have to trade him".

Lots of Wings fans mention that he wants to be a Red Wing and that it will def happen when he becomes an UFA. I am not sure how true but there are multiple people that mention that it is a badly kept secret that he wants to be a Red Wing.

Maybe, but keep in mind he doesn’t live in Michigan anymore in the offseason.

His top preference would probably be in Florida where he live in the offseason and where his fiancé goes to school, but that may not be the best fit from a hockey/business perspective. The New York area would be my guess, there are lots of medical schools there for her to transfer too and all 3 teams could really use him. I can also see more of a hockeyish trade with the Avs, they hired @DTMaH a few yeas ago and Trouba was always outstanding in his models and the traditionalists would probably like to add the size and physicality Trouba would bring. Detroit would clearly still be in the mix though.

If the Sharks do lose out on EK, they should make a run at Trouba.
Assuming he'd re-sign w/ the Sharks, something around Merkley & either Labanc or Chemlevksi of interest to build a deal around?

A little miss leading. Zuccarello did not go for 2 1st. In fact one of the 1st will not happen. The other remains to be seen if Dallas is willing to give up the other one to resign him. I doubt Trouba gets traded at all. At the deadline I doubt he gets what Stone got. Stone signed an extension. Those at the deadline are rare. The deal will probably be a prospect and a conditional pick at the deadline. Trouba is good no doubt and will fetch something but it will be a lot lower unless he is willing to resign and the hang up will be his price tag. He seems to think he is worth more than he actually is.

Ok, so points it is then.
Look, McDonagh is a defensive stud, as good as there is in the league. You dont watch him, so you wouldn't know. He is levels above Trouba as a defender.

How about they are both good defenders roughly equal in overall ability?

I thought the 2019 1st condition was met? And stuff I have read suggests Dallas is interested in signing him. That would be the 2nd 1st. Perhaps it is too early to claim that. Wasnt trying to be misleading.
