I'm not sure on specific's in terms of when a "deal" will get done or where that end of the situation is at but I am aware that he is not interested in playing here and would rather be playing in a large US City.

This is a pretty juicy nugget - gonna get some discussion. Probably worth moving this over to the Trouba thread.

Sucks ducks man! That has been the general feeling of many when it came to what was holding this up. I'd like to continue this discussion where it belongs but have no idea how to drag your original comment over to another thread.

Pulled these comments from the captaincy thread. The initial response is to my question to R3DDRAG0N that stemmed from his comments in that thread regarding the captaincy (correct on what the announcement would be) that also pertained to a Trouba bridge deal.

I can't judge the veracity of the information and this post may subsequently disappear unless the mods vet the information from R3DDRAG0N as per site rules.

Would be disappointing if Trouba wants to go but I do have faith that Chevy will retain him for some time until he gets the right trade. Just unfortunate situation if true, I like Trouba and think he'll be a very good hockey player.

What is the absolute extreme end this could come to?


If the Jets are certain that Trouba's market value has been established and won't go over that what could hypothetically happen if they just take a 'take it or leave it' position? Long term.

Lets say Trouba sits out and the Jets say 'fine!'. How long could that go before Trouba has any rights with a team in the NHL other than the Jets? Is there value in the hard-nosed rep that Chevy would get in taking it to an extreme?


Picture it: Summer 2020. Some kid fresh off his ELC wants way more than he's worth. It'd be nice to have a rep where the agent has to say "kid, don't play that game with the Jets. Remember that Trouba character? His agent had him hold out and the Jets' offers didn't improve. Trouba played in the KHL for three seasons and never cracked an NHL roster again".

I totally agree with this. Maybe it makes me short sighted and spiteful...and let's be honest, that's probably true... I know I wouldnt be OK with being pushed around by some RFA.

All other reports seem to say that at the very least Trouba doesn't mind Winnipeg. I honestly wouldn't hate a bridge deal at this point to just get it done.

and a trade couldn't be in the cards with a long term deal say like kane when he asked to be traded the day after he signed almost.

If this is the case I imagine they'll ramp up Trouba's value for a trade eventually. He'll probably pair with Buff all year and get reasonable pp time

Mixed message indeed. Your first message indicated "... I am aware that he is not interested in playing here and would rather be playing in a large US City" . You gave no indication that this was merely your impression & was not coming from the same inside "official" source as the captaincy rumor.

Here's hoping you are wrong in this one because I too feel that if they can't get a long-term deal done now, they will never be able to.

Understood, and I figured as much. Any information on the Trouba negotiations from an "inside" source would result in huge repercussions. The Jets run a very tight ship regarding contract and trade negotiations.

Also hope I didn't offend you; I wasn't trying to say you were a good or a bad source in either way, just wanted to provide the caveat that it's unofficial, so depending on how the mods interpret it something may happen. I thought the same thing.

Get a long-term deal and let the Jets know you want out. A decent value long-term contract would make him that much more attractive in a trade.

Still, I could see this going a number of different ways if he really does want out.

Everything seems to be pretty airtight at TNSE. It's one thing for the fact that an announcement is going to be made gets leaked, and another thing entirely for a player's wishes to be traded getting leaked.

Unofficial does not equate to unreliable. I'm inclined to believe this, but I've never much cared for Trouba anyway, so I'm probably pretty easy to sway. Plus, the man said scout's honour. That has to count for something.

Again I wanted to clarify the previous statements and be up front as after re-reading my posts it reads that the two statements were from the same source which is not the case and perhaps should have been re-worded as to avoid misrepresentation. Not backpedaling just being as honest and upfront with regarding the posts I made earlier and provide further clarification. I still stand by both statements. You can take the second Trouba statement for what its worth (unconfirmed if you will). I guess time will tell........Again I hope I'm wrong more than anyone else who cheers for the Jets as I'd love to see Trouba head up our D-core in the future.

The simple fact is Trouba has 4 more years where the Jets are in control, if he really wants out sooner it makes more sense for him to play ball now so that he looks like an attractive trade candidate when the time comes.

If it is true, I wonder if the hold up for a long term deal would be based on a partial NMC. If he wants to leave, I could see them being apart on Trouba having a say on where he goes rather then having no say.
